Subscribed with both my channels. I'm over in Frisco, but I was born and raised in SA. Cool to see a Texas boy just chillin making videos about the stuff you like. Take care bro.
i see all these damn comments about ohh they copied so and so or you could've got a micro tech for $180 more, like not everyone wants to spend $250-370 on a micro tech that's gonna stay in you're pocket like any other knife, i mean if you got the money for it go ahead but if you're buying a $300 knife just to cut boxes open or just to brag you got a micro tech idk what to tell you lmaoooo.
at about 1/4th the price and they are both made in China so it really just depends on what you're looking for I guess. I actually found another company that has ones almost identical to these for the 40-50 dollar price range.
I have the larger version like urs. I love the feel of the knife. Plus you forgot to add the lifetime warranty. Can't forget that! It's worth the 109 I paid for it. Good video!
They ain't bad for a lower end otf knives. I've had one for a few years broke it once sent it ti them and they sent it back to me fixed and never had an issue since. Just gave it ti a buddy of mine bc I bought a heretic
Yes, agreed. I have a couple myself, same thing, one broke on me and they fixed it for free and it's been fine. Thanks for the comment. I'll have to check out Heretic
I just ordered my first OTF from Cobratec today, it is a different model it is Large FS-3 Stonewash, i have allot of non auto pocket knives but in my state to carry an otf auto concealed you need a concealed weapons license which i got like 6 months ago since i got into firearms, How has your Cobratec held up? Since it has been 3 years since you posted this video.
That’s awesome you just ordered your first one. My CobraTec knives have held up over the years. Other than having to sharpen occasion, that’s about it. I don’t use them everyday so that’s also part of it. Let me know how you like yours when you get it. Thanks for the comment
@@thenotsoblandlife2510 Np, will do. I am the same way, i carry a pocket knife everyday, but do not use them everyday and also rotate them through out the week, since this one is new i will probably carry a month straight then and then put in rotation.
I bought the identical knife, minus the fancy box and logo, for $29; it is sold under the name Atomic Defender OTF. A friend of mine has a Cobra Tec OTF like this and we compared our knives side by side and they are identical in every way, same weight, action, reliability, blade, and everything appears to be EXACTLY the same. My friend is pretty pissed about paying so much for the identical knife. While the Cobra Tec business office and distribution center itself is "based" in Texas as they state on their website, all their knife parts are actually manufactured in China and only ASSEMBLED and PACKAGED in America. The "American made" hype just isn't true. No matter what American company you buy these knives from, you're getting the same overpriced "made in China" knife, all simply being sold under different brand names. Don't believe me? Then go compare the online pictures of the Atomic Defender OTF to your Cobra Tec OTF and you'll see they're identical; and I can assure that in person they are EXACTLY the same as well. I'm sorry, but I'm just the messenger here so don't get mad at me.
Not mad at all.. I appreciate the info and I will look them up.. If I can get the same thing for $29, I will buy a handful of them. LOL.. Thanks for the information
@@thenotsoblandlife2510 I'm a knife collector from way back and have put a fair amount of research into this. Unfortunately, even the Microtech knives are now manufactured in China and only assembled and packaged in America. All these "American" companies seem to shop at the same knife factories in China, ordering tens of thousands of parts at once....blades, handles, switches, springs, etc.....and then only assembling and packaging them with their own branding at their fake "factory" in America. It's a scam they're all doing now and marking their knives up 500% to 1000%. The fact is that the Chinese knives are pretty good now, but you shouldn't be charged American prices for them. As far as I can tell my large Chinese made $29 Atomic Defender OTF is identical to the $484 Microtech Combat Troodon except for the logo and screws. What I do know for sure is that my knife, which I've had for over a year now and use daily, is working flawlessly and holding up just fine so what in the world would be the advantage of a $484 Microtech OTF? It's just a frigging tool for christsakes and it does the job. It's a shame that people are getting ripped off because they think they are buying American made and paying overly inflated prices for Chinese knives. Ain't NOTHIN' made in America anymore!
I've had a small cobratec for three years and it's incredibly dependable and easy to maintenence, I finally got a large ctk1 and holy moly it's even better
Hmm. I don’t know about gimmicky and cheesy. I will say, one of my Cobra Tecs had an issue and my buddy and I went to a dealer and they fixed it on the spot. Nice and easy. BTW, Microtech is great but sometimes people like to go for a cheaper option with some decent reliability.
My otf quit working after 2 weeks! The blade is free floating in and out! I went to their website and posed the problem! Said they would get back with me! I still have not heard from them 2 weeks later!
That sucks man.. I have had really good experiences with their customer service. I sent my blade in and they fixed it and sent it back to me at no charge. I hope your problem gets resolved soon.
My husband just bought me one in orange. This was completely unexpected. He told me what he paid for it. $82.00. I have had this thing for less than 8 hours. It's a little stiff, wasn't sharp right out the gate. But it's brand new. Deployed it at my thigh to test the stop. It will not break skin dull. Very good to know. (You just pull the blade to reset.) Can't wait to field test this thing. Knowing I can buy different blades and replacement/modification parts......AWESOME! And, it doesn't break the bank.....like the $400 Benchmade that was beside it....... I wasn't with my husband when he made this purchase, it was a total surprise. I absolutely loved it!!!!! (I really want to see the Benchmade though.......hee hee hee.)
Thanks Jessica.. Price point was a big factor for me as well. I think these are some of the best OTF knives out there for the price. Be sure to like and subscribe. I'm currently working on a new knife review that should be out this week. Have a great day.
Do you know about the sfx if it has play or if you know anyone thst does know. Please lmk if you can. Bc that knife you have has my type of play. I'm a play snob but I would never tell people that play does not compromise the knife in anyway at all. But no one has gone over the play of the sfx. But thsnks once again. I saw another video where red knife had more play than yours and it was a cobrstech but I had an ultratech and I have otf knives that are tighter then them. I sold it and got only half the money back. But I'm interested in this cobratech sfx gor some reason
I have one. It is my EDC knife. I have used it daily for about 4 years and no problems. It has been used in water, mud, and snow. Still works great. Keeps a decent edge. Mine is a tanto blade.
Hi, thanks for the video. I just bought my first "real" knife and it's a Cobra Tec. I don't know much about it, it just looked good and felt heavy and well made. I have a question about the sheath. I put it on my belt but I have to take the whole sheath off to get at the knife. Is that how it's supposed to be used?
Honestly I'm not sure. I never used the sheath but it would seem to me that you shouldn't have to remove the sheath to access the knife. Good to know though. I hope you enjoy your knife like I have mine. Please like and subscribe as I will be doing more videos and reviews in the future. Take care.
@@jukemaster1209 No problem, if you want to like and subscribe that would be cool. I'm going to be doing a lot more videos, including some other knife reviews. Thanks
With respect, by any measure, Microtech has never been found to be “flimsy”. Expensive? Perhaps. Depending on your value to quality perspective. Flimsy or poorly made? That’s a bold statement. For a real world test of that, I recommend watching any of X-Ring video reviews on YT. Not a fanboy of MT or myopic in my views, just stating facts.
@MajorC202, I totally appreciated the comment, I mentioned the Mircotech felt more flimsy than this knife, not that they were cheaply made... I personally just feel that if I'm going to spend over $300 on a knife that it better be really well made and not "feel" flimsy or lower quality in my hand or while in use. Microtech makes some great knives and maybe the one I had just wasn't up to par....
@@thenotsoblandlife2510 There's really not a magic way around that. It's like saying your $1,300 iphone battery gets hot when you charge it but so does a $50 Best Buy burner phone so the iphone is bad. You can't get around some things.
I just got a medium dagger in Tiffany Blue. I removed the clip and making a Kydex belt holster right now. I also removed the glass breaker and covered with a crew cap. Only regret is not going with the Cerakote..
Caleb Wofford, true, lol. I do use it though for cutting rope, opening letters, etc. works just fine. Don’t forget to subscribe to the page. Once you do, send me an email at JoshinThemAll@gmail.com with your mailing address and I’ll send some cool stickers and stuff.
You might of just got a bad one. Mine is my EDC and I have had it for over 4 years and used it in many adverse conditions. Every year I take it apart, check springs, clean and gently lube it. I like it better than my NATO army OTF that I paid $400 for!
I have a few Microtech otfs and they are top quality for sure. I ordered the CTK-1 in black and for the price you cannot beat it. I have had it a while and have no complaints. Quality is pretty good and I really like the sheath and case it comes with. Good review.
StratBurst92 Thanks for the comment. I agree, for the price it’s a great option. Are there better OTF knives out there? Of course.. But on a budget, this is the way to go.
Is the CTK-1 the best cobra otf knife now since it’s newer and better steel? I’m going to buy a medium one right now all black CTK-1 instead of a microtech!
Van Khawlhring Thanks for the comment. Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not. lol. I’m not saying this is better than Microtech. I’m just saying for an 1/8th of the price of a microtech, this is pretty damn good for what you get.
