After 14 months of full-time RV travel across the USA, we've decided to settle down on a 12 acre homestead in Georgia! We still have several videos from our travels left to publish, so we'll be sprinkling those in along with the homesteading & farming videos. We're brand new to any sort of homesteading, so we hope you'll enjoy watching us figure it all out. It should be pretty entertaining. :-)
Cell service at both Furnace Creek and Stove Pipe Wells. 'Do not stack rocks', they may be a form of art to some, but 'Cairns' have a very significant purpose other than art and may mislead directions for hikers.
disappointed to see that certain people 'disturbed nature' by building the stacks. I think 'leave no trace' means 'leave no trace' that you were there.
I believe they grow on elephant garlic, so you can plant them, and they’ll grow into a larger clove the first year, and then you can plant it again or leave it in the ground, and it’ll grow into the big bulbs that I harvested.
@@McVeyMcFarm Gotcha - I would tend to think the RR Library B&C Car was/is the real deal - given the nature of Border Town Casinos barking for business, wouldn't put it past them to have a replica on display and indicating that it was real. Thanks for the response and the video - it's a nice one!
Can I ask a couple of questions? What color paint did you use in the kitchen? I really like the colors top & bottoms. Also, have you changed the light under the cabinet where the control panel is located? I can’t figure out how to get that one out!! I’ve changed numerous lights out in the RV, large and small, but can’t get that light out due to the location. I’m hoping it can be done without moving all the controls in the cabinet above the light. Thanks.
We used all Benjamin Moore Advanced paint on the cabinets. Colors were Cloud Cover for the uppers, and CW640 for the lowers/island/pantry door. We didn’t change out any of the lights.
Holy shit, you actually have insulation under your trailer. I have a covid camper. Forest river forgot that on my Wolfpack 25pack12. The underbelly drops all the time . I have gone through rolls of duct tape on the highway when it is dragging down the road. My trailer is just over 2yrs old. I am so pissed off. I still owe 35k on it
Wow she was my 9th great grandmother and without her our generations wouldn't have existed. Love my family extended for the struggles they endured to assure a better 🧬 life with happiness and freedom.
R.I.P. to the beautiful Rebecca Nurse. History shouldn't be repeated but learned from for growth. My grandmothers grandma and Rebecca Nurse favored each other. I am now looking for our family history to piece together the health history traits that can be passed down thru our DNA to let my children know where they come from.
4) Final notes. The Visitor Center in Furnace Creek has lists of suggested activities depending on how much time you have. If you have half a day, they suggest a list for that. For a full day, another list. For two full days, an excellent longer list. I like to stay overnight in Stovepipe Wells (I've visited a few dozen times). The rooms are very primitive, but clean. Then, you can get up before sunrise and head straight over to the Mesquite Dunes. The breezes overnight will have blown away all the footprints of the visitors, and you will get outstanding photos of the dunes at sunrise, in their most pristine state. And as you said, Zabriskie Point is a great photo spot at either sunrise or sunset.
3) The tourist area with the signs at Badwater Basin is not the lowest point. The actual lowest point changes constantly with the shifting of the surface. In general it's several miles out. The basin is an ancient lake bed. As all lake beds do, it goes downslope as you go away from the shore. If it went up instead of down, it wouldn't be a lake. It would be a hill. However, the landscape is extremely fragile, and the NPS doesn't want it to be destroyed by the thousands of daily visitors tromping around out there. So they picked a spot which was convenient for parking and restroom facilities, and said, "Here it is!". Hey, it's close enough.
Very cool trip and very nice family pictures! Thank you for sharing it to us! You covered many of interested points within a day! I had 2-night 3 days there and know it is not easy at all to go from one place to another there (long, long drive on the unpaved roads). I love Devil Golf Course and Dante View) so hopefully your family can go back for these 2 places another time. Have fun!😊
Peace of mind really … the only predator problem we’ve had was a fox jumping the fencing and snatching a full grown turkey and pulling through the premier fencing. This was an open roosting tractor though. We’ve never had a single predator problem from a chicken tractor + premier 1 netting. When you invest a ton of time, energy, and money into your meat birds, I’d hate to lose them all in one night to a frisky coon.
@@McVeyMcFarm Yeah makes sense. Here in central Italy I use the netting for my layers who go inside their chickshaw at night. No issues with predators there either despite high fox and wolf activity in our area. I'm wondering if the frequent moving deters foxes because they can never really study the weak spots for very long.
I made Justin's chickshaw and had the same concerns about the paneling, particularly to keep weasels and marten out in our area. I decided to put hardware cloth and then the paneling over top of that. So far after 6 months I have had zero predator issues, how has yours held up this past year?
Great question! Still holding up great! We’ve had zero predator issues although we don’t have a ton of small/slinky type predators like it seems y’all do. Smallest here would be coons, skunks, etc …. We haven’t needed to add any sort of hardware cloth under the panels.
We take a big trip annually with another family (11 kids total between the two families). We just returned from a 17 day road trip with them to the Four Corners. We spent several days at Zion. Due to logistical reasons, I hiked the Narrows without anyone else from my family, but with my buddy (the dad of the other family) and three of his four kids. I went on for a while after their stopping point, but they stole the show that day by inflating inner tubes that they brought with them and then tubed the Virgin River to get back to the Riverside Walk. That may be a cool wrinkle to try that I haven’t seen anyone else do in person or online.
That is an amazing idea!!!! I wonder if the rangers would have anything to say about that, or if they wouldn’t care. It certainly would make the trip back much easier! 😆
@@McVeyMcFarm Not sure about rangers. I guess the other big thing would be to have optimal water levels. Not sure how shallow the deepest parts get as the summer goes on. For me, the deepest water I went through was chest height and I am 5’9”
USPS killed our first batch of chicks 13 years ago. Left them sitting in the hub for 4 days before calling us to say they "found them". Only 1 survivor that day and she was so sick she died 2 days later.
Rebecca Nurse is one of my (not sure how many) great aunts on my mums side. Been to her homestead as well and i love it❤ really hope to bring my daughter there this summer
Im glad Lucky made it. You guys deserve so much more subs. They will come..Your videos are fantastic and very exciting to watch. Thanks for sharing with us..
Looks delicious.. will you take us along on your journey I really like watching food being made or canned i try to learn as much as possible. Thank you
I would take that contractor to court.. also try calling him from a different number to see if he will answer.. it really stinks that we cant trust anyone these days. im sorry they did u guys like that. Cant wait for the barn build.
Living creatures need to be handled with the utmost care by the USPS. Packaging needs to have more prioritizing markings and be treated with respect. The person who packaged the eggs needs to make sure that nothing inside can move out of place if the contents are jostled in transit. How amazing that the one little bird soul survived. The birds become such loving pets. That is the joy of being vegan/vegetarian, to be able to love them, enjoy their company and never eat them!
