Quick question: Are you Neurotypical? You seem to be interpreting things very realistically. For example the whole thing about the 2nd batches of prophecies being explained by actual reasons. It's true, I just haven't heard anyone take that so seriously. I do not intend for this to be taken as me being rude. I just kinda decided to speculate if some guy on the internet is Neurotypical or not.
3) H G Wells uses adverb to show the fear of the narrator when he initially came into this strange world as he 'felt naked' and 'panting heavily' this suggests that he was stressed and felt as if he had been overwhelmed with anxiety showing that he feared the new world he had entered. However, when he met the creatures he 'regained confidence' showing that their appearance were childlike and not intimidating as he suddenly changes his perspective of the new place he was in and felt a sense of power over them. H G Wells uses pauses (such as hyphens, commas and full stops) to show the build up of tension and anxiety the narrator feels when he first spots the creatures. When the creatures 'had seen' him shows that he was alarmed and his head was filled with different thoughts such as whether they were violent or not. The pause (which shows the build up of tension) is then followed by the fact that their '...faces were directed towards..' him the adjective 'directed' also connotates a that he sensed that they would attack him and that he was in danger. However as he soon realises their soft nature the writer starts to use less pauses but long sentences to indicate the relief and that the narrator no longer felt in danger but safe.
