I know it’s a lot, but I was wondering if you were looking for a video editor? I really love your videos. If you want, I can do your first samples for completely free so you get a good idea of what the edits would look like with other previous videos. I am also autistic and have ADHD. I am just trying to get my word out there about my video editing. 😊
I will be very honest, I have never edited someone’s video before. If you are up for it, I would like to test my skills on at least one of your videos, if you do not feel comfortable, I completely understand.
It’s taken me 51 years so far to really start getting and living this. The unrealistic unattainable expectations and standards have kept me paralysed too long. Anything at all is better than nothing at all at this point. No choice! Everything just gets harder and more exhausting the older I get. Also PJ’s forever ❤
I've had so much trouble being an employee and focusing, and only recently did I find out I'm autistic. I've spent so long not knowing what was wrong with me, and now I know there was nothing wrong, just of a different flavor. I have no idea what I'm doing, though. I appreciate the guidance <3
@@kelseyterry Well, maybe how to network? Networking and communicating comes so easily for some people, and when I see a stranger my instinct is to pretend I do not exist. It works, they do not know I exist. Kinda the problem when you need a job. Oh, and interviews. Answering the ever dreaded "So tell me about yourself" question.
Teaching autistic people how to run a business maybe the solution to the unemployment/underemployment problem in our community for some of the reasons you mentioned. you don't even have to do it full time, you could live on a small property with a permaculture homestead in a tiny house with your power supply augmented by wind and solar, and essentially work the equivalent of a part time job with maximin free time and minimal bills. me however, i'm far more ambitious than that personally and I'm going to channel my Autistic Hyper attentive (what is labeled 'ADHD') Bipolar energy into it
I think that's a great idea. I even heard AUTHD and I thought that was an interesting twist on blending the two. I'd love to have you on the podcast if you're interested.
Great video; thank you. The question I'm left with is how to work with the other side of things like our hyperfocus - i.e., issues with executive function, struggling to engage when we're not interested in particular aspects of running a business, experiencing overwhelm/anxiety, etc. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Great podcast, Kelsey! The key takeaways for me are as follows: -You don't have to engage in small talk as an entrepreneur. Absolutely! -Your point about expertise is so true. Knowing your niche and building your business around your expertise is key.
So glad to hear you enjoyed the show. We are back and releasing new episodes each week! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TKKWSY8Rv6Y.html
About Kelsey giving a guidelines on where we must consider before committing with entrepreneurship: 1. (Mental) Health is wealth. It speaks volumes about "self-care". I'm also a believer that self-care is going at your own terms of your own wellness by listening to your body when to stop, or take breaks. Self-care is not one-size-fit-all, and "mindfulness" breathing to calm down will not work for everyone, including US. As we have our ways to cope under pressure. 2. 6:07 Finding the right person are both vital for NTs and neurodivergents alike. Just because "autism" is something the other party have in common, does not guarantee that it will have a sizzling chemistry. Having autism never defines any compatibility between the two, if both the mentor and you are. Find like-minded people who are complete strangers and are candid with being vulnerable at first. Politeness (i.e. being overly nice and afraid of offending people) as well as overdoing eye contact, can sometimes hit us back, even the least we expect. Other: - Government welfare/benefits WON'T take "disabled" people far enough as equitable as having a job with top-down management workplace. Uncle Sam only gives a tiny damn of accommodating these people. In the place I'm residing, I'd wish to see more disabled (homeless) people reflecting themselves of "What can I do for myself?", and others. Rather than asking for money from the drivers on the street and then these cash would then be disposed of. They may get a job, and are also fighting for a spot at it. But, I have a gut feeling that these people would likely get run under the bus imminently. - Getting a "job" appease the masses (i.e. your families being "proud of you" with some certain undertones, depending on the culture. And then the "Pretty girls"). Finding yourself what your hobbies and interest are can be a slower start at first, but we can work our way overtime with consistency. People don't really find themselves having to treat other customers/people equally. Jobs tend to profit their company instead of profiting yourself. Money is not the only medium when it comes to profits. We also profit the time and pride we put in our passion; and yet we can still fail... (But the latter carries more experience and a learner's attitude, rather than working for someone else) - Learn to say "no" to others without justifying yourself, or convincing them to agree with you. If other people are offended and reluctant to accept our "no's"-that's their loss! Being a yes-man and always agreeing with people risks being taken advantage by others, or even lying to yourself. People respect people for being frank, not obeying to their superiors with credentials.
this is the way.... you'll need credit if you need a loan but there are lots of low-cost ways to start a business. It all comes centers around your business idea. I started spectrum qa for the cost of a laptop because I was in the service space, but if you're married to building out a 3,000 sqft restaurant that'll naturally involve much more cash.
Always remember we must repent of our sins (sin is transgression The Law Of Yahuah The Father in Heaven. The Law are The Books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy). We must repent of our sins and Have Belief On Yahusha The Messiah. HE Died and Rose three days later so that we can be forgiven of our sins! Come to HIM🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I actually just now caught this episode on Spotify. I love the series. In HS I didn’t even know I was autistic. I just thought I was odd, a loser. In many ways I was just plain clueless. Of course in hindsight it all makes sense. Anyhoo, the part that touched me the most as a 40 year old man is that our insane focus and passion can be a tool. After hearing this I feel a little less odd about my dream to be the best Madden player on Earth. I don’t even tell anyone but my wife about this because I’m “too old” for video games. But hey professional gaming is taking off 🤷🏻♂️
Hi from Brazil. I'm 46 and just had an autism diagnosis. I've found your channel by searching for the words "autistic entertainment" on RU-vid. I'm not sure if this is your first episode with this microphone, but I have a few words of advice about how to get the most of this great piece of equipment. This is a high impedance mic, much higer then the most of mixers can deal with. The only way to match both is by connecting them through a preamplifier like Cloudlifter CL-1. Watch this video and see for yourself: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rJCWEkoRLls.html Congrats for your work and I keep waiting for more videos!
My tips are to never stop marketing. People need to see a lot sometimes before they commit to buying. Also strong branding really helps any business or project.
Very interesting interview, Kelsey. Thanks for putting this together. It was fascinating to have a ‘look behind the curtain’ into life with autism. Daniel, thank you so much for your vulnerability and transparency.
I'm a serial entrepreneur and have tried a lot of different types of businesses over the last 2 decades. Mostly I've found I vastly prefer to work by myself. But in one successful business, where we made custom replica cheerleading and dance team uniforms for the popular American Girl dolls, I managed to overcome my social issues and build a team of expert seamstresses located all over the US to sew the doll clothing, which was an awesome surprise. :) Overall, I've found that having email based communication with customers is essential for me. It gives me the space to get into a good mind frame first before replying, and if I don't understand what the customer is saying, I can run it by my more NT hubby for clarification. I've also discovered since then that doing custom work is not the best for me long term, as it leads to a lot more stress, confusion, time, and energy requirements and does not lead to better profits or business success. I am much happier taking a basic concept and running with it all on my own, which gives me more artistic freedom and enormous gratification when every design sells. I also use print on demand manufacturing services to create my designs for me since I am physically disabled due to fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and lupus. I can also wholeheartedly agree that the money IS in the niche, and every business I've ever owned has always been about finding a niche I love first that has a solid and sizable market demand, then finding creative product designs that cater to that market. This has worked well for me in the custom cheer and dance doll uniform biz, as a fiction and nonfiction writer for both Harlequin Teen and my own self-publishing, as a freelance editor for various publishers and on Upwork.com, and now as a fashion designer on Etsy. While I would not do well in a verbal based interview lol, I would be happy to answer any email questions you might have that might help my fellow viewers, and you can find me at my current Etsy business at www.KawaiiDressShop.com (which just hit its first year anniversary and grossed a very modest $27K in sales)! Thanks so much for doing this show/channel, as it is my new favorite to binge watch and I am looking forward to every new episode!
It's only now as a parent of two teenagers that I finally see what parenting me must have been like, lol. My mother kept me very active in school sports I was terrible at, dance lessons I wished I could have taken more of but we couldn't afford, and a LOT of 4-H activities. I always thought it was to prep me for college scholarships. Now I see it was to try and teach me NT skills like making friends my own age, leadership skills (never really developed those sadly), teamwork and communication, developing self awareness and how to speak and dress in more socially acceptable ways. I have mixed feelings about it all now...some of it was useful, other areas of it made me prone to feeling like I'm always being judged. It was tough trying to decide whether to encourage my kids down that same route. Ultimately I let them decide, and now that they're 18 and 14 yrs old, I still debate whether they should have done more extracurricular activities. It is SO tough to parent, and even more so as an Aspie raising Aspies (I know that's not really the correct term now that Aspergers is no longer in the DSMV, but I still identify with it, so I'm sticking with the term, lol).
