Hello, I'm Peppermint Life, a random person who makes dumb videos on the internet. I'm aiming to be an animator in the future. On this channel, you'll find mostly animations, but also speedpaints, singing with my guitar, thoughts about media, or just random joke videos. I also stream quite frequently. This channel really is just me doing or animating whatever I want. What video I make depends on how I'm feeling and what I want to do, so if you're down with that, hopefully you'll like this channel and my videos.
What I use: For a drawing tablet, I used to use a Wacom Intuos Pro, recently started using a Huion Kamvas Pro 12 For animation, I used to use Flash, but now I use Toon Boom Harmony, and sorry none of them are free T_T For digital drawing, I'm currently using Metibang Paint Pro, which IS free And for video editing, I currently use Davinci Resolve, which is also free!
Seeing the story of the Once-ler growing his corp into a massive cancer and knowing it all collapses in the end just keeps reminding me that the transition from capitalism to corporatism is when greed and pride making more greed makes the corpos believe that if they can't grow faster in the current system, why not change the rules of the game to benefit them more? And lo, did they start doing something called lobbying, to change the "restrictive" regulations to make more money faster and faster while ignoring the sudden multiplication of the amount of workplace incidents causing workers to drop like flies, and then they ask the question, why do we have to pay for these workers to get better? So they lobby, change regulation, and fire them to hire more workers, like who cares about the rising turnover rate, right? And thus the slippery slope gets steeper and steeper, the speed picks up faster and faster as they grow faster and faster, but they forgot in the process that getting rid of your morals means that slope eventually ends, and that the faster you go, the more you tap into greed and work to satisfy your pride, the harder it gets to pull up out of the downward crash. And thus, eventually, you hit the ground and everything falls apart faster than you can blink, and thus the Once-ler is left staring despondent at his ruined empire, no more Truffula trees to make his Thneeds, no more seeds to regrow it all, because in his desperate NEED to grow faster than every other corporation led to him consuming the world and nearly dooming them all. And in his old age, the Once-ler sees a kid approach his humble abode, his monument to his isolation to pay for his crimes against the world itself, and he gives away the last Truffula seed, in the hopes that this kid can make right what he himself had once made wrong, his very name an eternal reminder of his once evil heart, but also a reminder that after all he's done, he can just once do the right thing and hopefully make way for tomorrow to be better than today.
Honestly, it’d be really awesome if the original staff made their own version of the story without working with some big film corporation like Illumination, but instead had a big funding page for people to help them pay for its production. Obviously that can’t happen *cough* copyright *cough*, but still…
4:28 I love how this song acknowledges how much greed he had even if it hurt the animals and lying about things. He is now aware of what he is doing and doesn’t care. And is not just unaware like in the movies official song(How Bad Can I Be). “Who cares if some THINGS are dying” is so much better than “who cares if some TREES are dying.” Btw this animation is great!
i never heard the other cut songs, only heard biggering recently, and i can already tell the movie would've been better if they'd just gone with whatever script biggering was from...
It's interesting how the original concept for this movie took a darker side and called out large companies for consciously doing all these terrible things that hurt the world and all that are living in it, only for the big companies to have them change the story to something lighter and have the boss of the big bad company not realize the harm he was doing to the world so that he could go and say, "I had no idea this was happening, I'm so sorry". Because that's what they do when they're called out for doing something wrong that they definitely knew was wrong. They want us to see them the same way we see the Onceler in this movie. Someone who did something wrong without realizing it, so we forgive them. They didn't like how the original Oncler called them out and how that message was definitely going to be picked up by the audience.
5:00 I find it a really nice unspoken touch that he sees something (presumably blood) in the rag after he coughs, and he just puts the rag out of sight and lights up another cigarette. Like other people have said on here, this all fits the character much better than the representation he had in the Illumination movie
I'm going to guess why this draft didn't make it as the song in the movie It's too intense for a kids movie especially considering how calm the movie is relative to the song
My friend actually became friends with an employee at Illumination who worked on the original Biggering draft, he didnt feel comfortable sharing it and legally _couldnt_ share it, so all he told my friend was that the movie was still 2 hours and Biggering was the one thing that stayed the same over the course of the writing. Also apparently one of the writers for that draft said if they scrapped the song they would debate with themself on qutting lol
This animatic should be fully animated. "The Lorax" deserved to be better than Illumination was willing to make it. You did an exceptional job with the screenplay, not to mention capturing the entire message effectively as a whole.
always love to discover more people learning about the art we lost due to illumination being an awful company that hates creativity and silences it's creatives visions
I love how it goes from a light blue color to show how the Onceler was light hearted at first to slowly becoming way more warm and reddish to show how he's becoming more corperate and bad.
..*inhale* MR ONCLER YOU ARE LUCKY YOUA RE A PRECIOUS OLD MAN NOW OR I WOULD USE MY POWER OF BEING AN ARTIST AND DRAW THE LORAX stabbing you...like the preppy slay kween he is <3 no but fr i love this
This song was given Justice by you sir. You gave a masterpiece. It gave an animation of exactly what this song should've been. You are a person who given The Lorax JUSTICE. You made the Onceler a R E A L villain.
Can i just say The Oncler standing on a crane with his factory growing in the back ground and ash and smog filling the skies is a VERY intimidating spectacle, high marks from me.
