He could have pitched into the 9th inning. That was a mistake in a 2-2 game. You can use the back of the bullpen if the game goes into the extra inning. Team was desparate for a win tonight. Bad move.
Corbin has to go the way of Robles as his Nats career has been similar. Great first year, then pretty much awful every year since. Every Nats pitcher but him now gives the Nats the chance to win ballgames. Once Josiah Grey comes back, Corbin should be DFA'd. Or put in the bullpen, where he last excelled, in Game 7 of the WS. The Nats could use a lefty there. But he certainly doesn't belong in the starting rotation. As for Jacob Young, he has the highest BA in the starting lineup, and the most stolen bases. In an anemic lineup, why on earth is he batting ninth?
I have zero understanding why Martinez would take Irwin out of the game, when he's pitching the best game of his career, and one of the best games any Nat has pitched this year. The Braves must have been so relieved. It was inevitable once that happened that the Nats would lose. Makes no sense.
Another wasted pitching performance. When you have the lowest batting average in the majors in May, with little power, and constantly leave tons of runners on base, you're not going to win many games. On a separate note, is there any conceivable reason Victor Robles is still on the team? He doesn't hit and is a poor baserunner. He's a defensive replacement at best. Haven't the Nats given him enough chances, year after year. Especially with the great outfield prospects just waiting in the minors.
While the pitching is much improved this year, the offense has been anemic. Yesterday 4 hitters had BA under .200, 2 are flirting with 100. Of the 4 veterans Rizzo brought in, only 1 is hitting over .200. Gallo is a strike out machine. Rizzo's strategy of bringing in players on 1 year deals has not worked. Even when he finds a good one, like Candelaria last year for example, he ends up trading them away mid season. And with good young players like Adams, Garcia and Gore, he chooses to give a long term contract to Ruiz, a poor defender who chases bad pitches regularly. Really puzzling. Is he going to wait until their last month before free agency to lock up those 3 players when it's already too late like he tried to do with Harper and Rendon?
Garcia???? You used him 3 days in a row….stop with the righty lefty lefty righty match ups Davey….that is Finn’s inning….Garcia sporting a 6 era and you over use him
