Hello! I hope you're having a wonderful day so far!
My name is Ruby and I started off on RU-vid sharing study tips, motivation and advice. I recently graduated from university and am now taking a year out to take things slow and focus on writing and learning outside of a formal educational setting. I'm a huge proponent of self-guided learning, and don't believe this stops when you leave school.
If you're interested in checking out my other social media, I am also active on Instagram (@_rubygranger) where I share more of my day-to-day life, and Goodreads (Ruby Granger) where I share book reviews.
If you do decide to subscribe, I hope that you enjoy watching my videos and find them helpful. Make sure to let me know if you have any particular video requests :)
Interesting comment you made about Titanic. I found that the licensing restrictions for USA block me if I try to use NordVPN to switch to UK or Paris to watch things not licensed for viewing in the USA but I can watch them on my iPad or I presume if I had a MacBook, I could do the same thing. So the streaming services are able to see you're still in the US with a Windows PC but not on Apple devices.
It’s so interesting how much less work is involved in English courses. I’m currently doing my second Masters at a Russell Group uni and we work from September to September, five days a week, 9 to 5, with no time off. We fit assignments and independent research projects around uni work, placements and classes. I guess that’s the difference between training for a specific profession and a subject taken for the joy of it. Would be lovely to do a more leisurely course one day x
I know what you're thinking ... Columba is displaying clairvoyance here, not precognition? I think that they might be the same transferable skill, based on my limited understanding of science.
Dear Ruby, ultimately all we do is unto God and not subject to the approval of family, friends, or even self. "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men". Colossians 3:23 Sometimes the urge to please people overwhelms me and I have to step back and remember my life is not answerable to men but to God. I love your videos and your insight!
Your vlogs are so wonderfully and refreshingly wholesome. Specially in today’s day and age where everyone is so entitled, you and your friends seem to be the exception.
Hi, Ruby. I think, background sound that your added is annoying. It is like a cheesy advise music. Your vlogs were so good in the past. I suprised when i watch your last videos. My English is broken so i hope i write the right sentences. If it is rude excuse me. Good luck and success :)
I know I'm late to this video, but I just wanted to say thank you SO much for your discussion on the materiality of books! I come from the marketing side of the publishing industry and the whole physical experience of a book is so fascinating. (I'm actually looking to get my PhD in book marketing, specifically exploring at the visual packaging of a book -- the cover, the interior design, the book trailers, etc.. Take it from a book marketer -- "don't judge a book by it's cover" is true for everything except books!)
I never thought of studying a subject at university that it would have a job at the end of it. Studying at university is an intellectual Pursuit for which the results and disciplines learnt can be applied to a job 😊
What is my only ideal of pure bliss? What did Ernest Hemingway come to enjoy the most in his final years? Sitting in his Idaho mountain garden with a good book/manuscript?
Hi Ruby! I am going to the Oxford Uni open day this week for undergraduates and I was wondering if you have any advice for looking around/must-see places. Your videos are particularly special to me as I am planning to study English Lit next year and your videos are so inspiring for that! Also, do you have any advice in applying to Oxford? Any interview/admissions test/personal statement tips would be incredible. Thank you!
Wow, I got so much from this video! I always used to write, as you say, in expectation of perfection. I used to get so frustrated after editing for hours on end and it still wasn't what I wanted it to be. But it's incredibly freeing to think you can just write without any expectation of anyone reading it and that it's the outcome that matters rather than the process. I'm also going to write poems and burn them as I love that idea! Thankyou Ruby 😊
There's a huge Jane Austen world. They sometimes refer to her letters when talking about her novels. Her earliest writings as a young girl were long overlooked. They are now receiving lots of attention.
Ruby!! Your videos are always such an inspiration. I can't believe you already are at the end of your adventure in Oxford! I am currently in the midst of exam season, and hopefully I will start working on my dissertation (and the hundreds of academic projects I'm involved in) next week, and your video just got me so inspired to do it! I hope your conference goes well! Lots of love, dear
I used to also be always streesed and feeling my head muddle during finals but this year ive finally gotten free from that and i got the best grades ive ever had on university. I thought we would have to be stuck in that stress loop forever but after spending last year crying over thinking i would have to deal with this again in my masters (thinking how I could never really relax. That it was 24h of stressing over stuff) i prioritized my heath the semester after that, pushed through my depression again and now off work i dont even think about it, i relax so much more and i feel so much better i just do my best and no more stress. Its amazing. There is a way to live like this. You always said it wasnt, that if you care you would feel this wah but i am living proof that you can. Studying more than 10h a day for over 2 weeks this month im better than fine. We can do it!
