Coming from Watford this seems like hell to me! I went to Luton watching Watford. Mixed memories I have to say! 😀

It would seem that councillors those days were much more interested in the community than now. Now they are only interested in their own pockets epitomised by the lady MP who ran away with enough money to pay for her house on the south coast. And got away with it.

Luton was never a pretty town but now it looks like a truly backwards place with rubbish bins and cars parked on the pavements so that pedestrians must walk in the road. No more fountains in the shopping centre. No need to have an airport there because it is already like being abroad. Before I get the colonial remarks, it was only the upper classes who did this in the past. Spain is the probably the only country that has had mass invasion by British people where they outnumber the locals certain areas. Spanish people would never want to return the favour with its more efficient health system, rubbish collecting and better food and weather. I would love to live and do my own ways in somewhere like Kashmir but I would be killed within a week.

Luton has suffered just like all manufacturing towns…Free Market Capitalism… Purchase by Hedge Funds…load debt…cut costs and lay off workers..relocate to cheaper labor markets…declare bankruptcy …..move production to cheaper labor markets…gut pension schemes.. What more do you need with Capitalism. Labor is just a piece of production. Community left behind is irrelevant. Just look at the infrastructure in Luton. There is no maintenance of parks and public spaces. School playgrounds are sold off to developers os housing. Local Government has no budget to maintain libraries,, schools public spaces etc. Done in by Capitalist “If it doesn’t make money shut it down” Born at St Mary’s Hospital in Luton

These are the people that made Luton, and our country, great. Then along comes diversity and before you know it, its been destroyed. This is a record of how good things once were.

Being a 1950s kid we would catch the number 6 bus back to Dunstable from Williamson street the stop was outside the Library i mention this because i had forgotten so much about Luton The video brought past memories alive I saw The George Hotel and Brundells or Blundells, the red lion where i would walk with my grandma holding my hand such good memories. I moved away in 1977 and returned for a look with my wife and children in 2014, i wish i had not bothered its changed so much and not for the better. Thank you for those memories from 1935 to 1955 it hadnt changed that much, I remember the market and Waller street swimming pool which in winter would have steam coming off the water. The waller street carpark where our car was broken into yes real memories of a town i once liked to go to. Once again my thanks, I have retired some time ago and now live in Ubon Ratchathani Thailand. Its so alive when compared to the UK

I remember the Queens visits she was dressed in yellow, To look at Luton in the 50s is now a land we forget, what it is now bears no resemblance to that once proud town. Anyone remember blundells ?

Yes, and I remember they still used those vacuum tube thingies for cash and receipts. Also remember the Co-Op superstore, even the old library and swimming baths before they trashed it for the wretched Arndale. I was sitting on my dad's shoulders for the Queen's visit and I had to tell him what I could see.

Glad I stuck with it long enough to hear the rhyme. I was born in my nan's house in London and my family moved to Lewsey Farm in the 60s. I left again because I never felt like I belonged. Turns out I'm autistic and don't really belong anywhere. I still have a few friends in town and I had some really good times there. Luton and Lewsey in particular made me who I am no matter where I live. Much respect for the video. Loved it.
