So, I just got accepted into JMU and I’m Visiting next month (yay!) it’s in my top two schools right now.. if I go to JMU I’m totally going to join the MRDs and I wanted to ask a few questions if that’s okay!
I am curious how you chose housing at jmu? Cuz I am looking to join the nursing program, so what hall would be best for those types of classes. Also if I were to be housed a little ways away from my classes are freshman allowed cars?
hi! when i was a freshman they did it randomly but i think now you can put a preference for where you want to live or you can apply for residential learning communities! freshman are usually not allowed cars because you are required to live on campus! i lived in the village and i loved it bc i was right in the middle of campus and as a first year nursing major youre going to be all over campus with the nursing pre-reqs and gen-eds so i def recommend the village area!
Hi! I wanted to ask: was it hard getting into the nursing program at JMU? I’m a high school junior now and I’ve been looking into applying for JMU myself, but I was also wondering: you are supposed to apply for the nursing program during your sophomore year, right? And if so, doesn’t that mean you start off freshman year with a different major and switch in? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just super curious! And btw, I’m in marching band in my HS and totally would join the marching band at JMU if I got in :,)
Im a freshman at JMU and in the MRDs!!! I play clarinet and you should definitely do marching band in college it is a life changing experience and I can answer any questions about that if you have any!!!!!
Brianna Kaiser hello!! i definitely would recommend joining mrds if you came to jmu, it is so fun!! as a freshman when you declare a major you’ll declare nursing but you’ll apply for the nursing program your sophomore year at the earliest. the first three/four semesters you’ll be taking general education classes and the nursing prerequisite classes. the nursing program is competitive but it’s competitive everywhere because of class sizes and clinicals and because a lot of applicants:) lmk if you have any more questions!
MRD percussion member here - definitely join band it’s so much fun :) (definitely take a look at rehearsal schedules though but it’s totally okay to join and drop later if it’s too much, because then at least you’ve given it a try!) plus the only sections who need to audition are percussion and color guard so otherwise you just sign up for the class and you’re in :) just be sure to check our website for the membership form (if it’s not past the deadline already but you could probably still sign up tbh)
