(co)lab: A Collaborative Leadership Summit exploring how cities and regions solve problems through collaborative leadership. Atlanta, GA • September 22-23, 2013 • Woodruff Arts Center
I'm 63, and I was never gifted. I LOVED my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and 4th grade teachers because what we learned was pretty easy in my opinion. Then came 5th grade. That was the first year that I went to different rooms for different subjects. My math teacher was Asian, and English was barely his 2nd language. He "taught" fractions, and I have no idea how I got through 5th or 6th grade with exception of my 6th grade english teacher. She had also been my 1st grade teacher and she was so nice. I did well in her class but I must have done average in other classes because I still graduated from high school. In 9th grade, back when it was still part of Jr. High, I was so tired of struggling with math. There were 2 levels offered. 1) General math, and 2) Algebra I. My confidence was so low that I signed up for general math. It was essentially 3rd or 4th grade math which caused panic attacks, but on day 2, the teacher, a man who was probably late 50's or early 60's asked me to stay after class. I was terrified, another problem for me was how scared I was of my own shadow. I grew up on a farm with no siblings or other kids to socialize with, and my husband knows to never leave me by myself because I will panic. I can't just strike up a conversation. He asked me "why did you take this class"? I hung my head, then tried to look him in the face and told him that I didn't think I could handle algebra. He then said to me "I would like for you to try algebra I, and if you can't do it, you can come back to general math. (He taught both). Beginning with my first day in his class, I found it to be easy to understand. I rarely got anything lower than an A- and never looked back at that general math class. I couldn't believe I understood it, and didn't understand why other subjects weren't so easy to understand. He was an incredible teacher. I adored him. I never took science in high school, but I did sign up for Algebra II. At the end of the 1st semester, I dropped it before I finally had an F on my report card. Totally different teacher, much different grades!
It's been a while since I've watched this amazing, fascinating, funny, and capable man. What a gift to have someone with such insight and energy who cares enough to speak to groups of people about education reform.
This school started when my daughter was very young. I wanted both of my children to attend here but I lived South of the airport and worked at 5:00AM. I was trying to figure out how I could get someone to drive them to school so that they could’ve attended. I saw the movie with Matthew Perry and followed his career ever since. Ron Clark / his team are excellent!! The children that I know that attended here are extremely successful adults, today because of the RCA teaching style.
This man just said something that I am fighting against. A label was put on our son and the I realize the expectation has been lowered. My wife and I decided to fight this label. We enrolled our son in the online school and I began working with him at home. At the end of the first semester he got some A and passed every subject. For the first time ever he was no longer at the bottom of the class. Since then he has been soaring. I thank God I saw the Ron Clark feature on Nas Daily. This has inspired me to fight harder for our son and other children. Far too many of them are labeled and pushed aside.
I want WTF HE DRINKIN!! Cuz my Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and severe lower sciatic back pain NEEDS IT FOR REAL!!! BAHAHA but teachers in cypress cali..specifically anaheim district and cypress district NEED TO VISIT THIS PLACE!!!
I watch this again and again and again and again and again never bored of it and If I had one wish is to reincarnated in America, Atlanta (which is not possible) and study this school with this amazing and creative teacher who gonna make the world a better place to learn.
"Life is too short to not be inspired or inspire others", that's my quote you Inspired. Thank you Mr. Clark. Reminds me of the other Great Educator (coincidentally) Joe Clark
I just watched a movie made about the Ron Clark Story and I am in awe of this young man!!!! I am 66 and can't even begin to imagine where I would be today if I would have learned the positive energy this man teaches! I definitely missed the boat!!!!!!!
Teachers today seem to be into marxist social justice training (for rioting & conforming), rather than teaching them how to love, create, & prosper. I hope that stops.
I love ❤️ it! I am switching careers from Business Corporate to Education. Something I should hv done along time ago. Ron Clark has confirmed this decision for me and inspired me. Thx 🙏 you!
Sir Ken Robinson always delivers such great information with humor and honesty. Every video I watch, I learn and begin to wonder so many things! Thank you Sir Ken Robinson for opening a different perspective every time.
Please keep blaming the teaching methods and the teachers. I guarantee you that the students of the US will have learned nothing to compete against the Taiwanese, Japanese, Koreans, Finns, Germans, and so on.
It is really sad since the US universities have so many professors and scientists that the other countries can only envy. But the students are not prepared to learn from them.
Anyway, factory jobs with full labor benefits are very scarce these days. However, the average GM workers will have retirement funds that average white-collar workers can only envy. The retirees usually drive Cadillacs.
Anyway, I wish to mention that factory jobs with full labor benefits are very scarce. However, the average GM workers will retire with funds that average white-collar workers can only envy... The average GM retirees usually drive Cadillacs.
