NHTSA Opens Investigation into Nissan Versa Engine Stalling - Lemon Alert "The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 20 complaints and multiple field reports describing reduced power (limp mode) following a vehicle stall in 2022-2024 Nissan Versa vehicles equipped with a manual/standard transmission. The complaints allege that if the vehicle stalls, resulting from releasing the clutch too fast (or for other reasons), the vehicle goes into the limp mode resulting in limited torque available to move, or accelerate the vehicle. This limp mode occurs without prior warning and can occur while driving on the highway, or in city traffic. Several of the complaints allege not being able to maintain vehicle speed above 30 MPH or accelerate to avoid a potential hazard." I bought a 2022 Nissan Versa with a manual, and because of how crude it was and especially because of how uncomfortable it was on the highway, I traded it in for a Corolla Hatchback, even though my Versa only had 12K miles on it. The Corolla is a much nicer and more capable car, especially on long road trips. By the way, I experienced the limp mode condition after stalling, and after that happened once, my engine developed a slight knocking noise. I'll never buy another Nissan again.

I'm fine with everything except how high-revving it is on the highway. For comparison, my 2018 VW Jetta is running at around 2200 RPM at 75 MPH in fifth gear. Granted, that is with a more powerful turbocharged engine, although it is actually smaller in displacement (1.4L) than the Versa's engine (1.6L), and gets around the same mileage (I'm averaging around 37 MPG).
I envy you man! I want a manual Versa but my wife doesn’t want one of our car to be a manual. She shot herself in the foot though because the 2022 Altima we bought will need a new cvt pretty soon. We got quoted $8000 for a new cvt.

I had a 2015 Nissan Versa S, a 2017 Nissan Versa SV, and a 2019 Nissan Versa S plus and now I have a Honda but I’m considering a 2024 Nissan Versa S with the plus package but can you control the Headlights or do they stay on when it’s dark or when going under an overpass? Do they control themselves without the ability of being able to turn them off manually when driving?
@@shawnfahey7243 If the vehicle is coming directly at me, they seem to work well, but sometimes they stay on too long in my opinion which my be blinding to others
Because Nissan Just slapped a Manual transmission and did not bother to reprogram a CVT based Engine computer module. I believe limp mode is supposed to be a safety feature to prevent excess engine power ruining the CVT under certain conditions, maybe the computer senses something wrong in the transmission thinking it is a CVT and it just shuts the power or prevent more power delivery to the transmission.
@@slingshotengage I heard the recently produced 2024 ones don't suffer the limp mode defect, maybe Nissan reprogramed the newly manufactured ones. I just got a new 2024 Manual versa last week, manufactured in May 2024 just the previous month before I bought it. I have not stalled the car yet but I will report what I experience when I do.
Auto UNLOCK ---- to enable/disable auto-unlock: (or) auto-lock 1. Close all doors. 2. turn ignition key to the ON position. 3. Press and hold the door unlock switch for 5 seconds or more 4. switch is completed when the hazard lamp blinks. 2 blinks = enabled 1 blink = disabled Note - to enable/disable the "auto lock" feature is the same procedure, but press the lock button.
They were made in Mexico so do not expect it to last as poor quality control issues there. S model does not have Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio & SiriusXM Satellite Radio. There is no keyless entry but you can add a aftermarket alarm to open the doors remotely.
It may be affordable but I wish I hadn't bought mine. This car is shorter than the 2015 Versa I had. Rear seats have no leg room. Trunk is smaller. Front passenger seat can not be changed in height. Glove compartment is smaller. You have to buy your own screws to attach the front license plate. At this time you can't get the cameraa (which cover a large part of the windshield), auto dim rear view mirror factory installed. The worst part is they built the car with crevices that can't be cleaned of debris all over the car ( too many recessed gaps between top and sides of car and front and rear windows. Not worth the cheap price.
@@slingshotengageI can stay 36v; trying to get up to 21-23mph without being at full power, make my commute to local parks a little quicker. Stock I currently cruise around 15-18
I drove fiats in 70's and 80's driving fiat 124, 131 Brava .I put on pirelli P77- best traction; it was rwd best traction in snow. I wish these vehicles were available today.
I was looking into replacing my 24+ year old Saturn SL2 with one of these with the manual trans. So is it true this base model does not come with remote locking/unlocking doors? My Saturn does. Also the not split rear seat is a big deal for me. I've hauled many a large object by folding down the seat backs Including my bicycle. The best mpg I've gotten with my Saturn is 41 highway. Are there any other negative surprises I should know about? My Saturn is pretty basic but your Versa seems even more basic.
Yup, no key fob! Im sure a car audio shop could install one. The non foldable seat is an issue. The limp mode activating is worrisome as well. This has only happened once though. Other that those things it has done exactly as i hoped. If ya didnt need the manual, you could move up a notch and get split seats and FOB
That's funny when you say you finally have 10,000 miles on your 2024 Versa. I have a 2023 Kicks over a year old, and I'm just getting to 6,000 miles. NTSA has opened an investigation into the stalling and limp mode on the manual Versa.
I bought the exact same center console. Either the back USB ports on the car or on the console don't seem to work very well. I have a USB stick with my music plugged into the front USB port. When i plugged my phone in to charge in the center console it glitched my USB stick. I had to re-upload my music. I don't even use the back USB ports anymore.
As far as the limp mode goes I don’t own one of those but I’ve read before that it goes into limp mode sometimes if you either stall it or don’t turn the key for long enough for it to start. Supposedly the NHTSA is investigating and Nissan is supposed to have a fix soon if they don’t already have one. Edit: if you go to the NHTSA website and search Nissan Versa and click 2023 Nissan Versa then scroll down click on investigations and you can see “reduced power after engine stall”
Just picked up this exact car on Saturday about 260 miles on it. I think these things with the manual given reasonable care in maintenance and driving gently will serve us well. I’ve got the Kumho Solus tires / seem to get ok reviews .
Totally agree, i use mine for commuting back and forth on the east coast. So far it's been great, except for the one time in limp mode. Hopefully won't need tires for awhile!
