Federer had a cakewalk dominating the likes of Hewitt and Baghdatis until Rafa came along & exposed his weaknesses. In my opinion, the tears he cried after this match weren't because he wanted this match so much, they were tears of mourning the end of his dominance.
His hands and wrists are just incredible. These guys all hit millions of tennis balls in their lifetimes, producing all kinds of shots, but I truly believe some of these shots Roger could make, NOBODY in the history of the game could make. If you play or played tennis, you know how unbelievably difficult some of those half volleys are that he hit, and to have the strength of wrist to get the ball up in the air, and then the touch to direct them in so many different areas of the court when hitting them, is unbelievable. Such a great champion, and so elegant on that tennis court. To me, Roger and John McEnroe were the two most beautiful tennis players Ive ever seen in my life.
I wanted to hate Nadal when I was growing up because he would always beat Roger but dangit I just can't he's such a good dude and they will both be missed as two of the greatest champions of our sport.
Wow, some of you love to complain about everything. Of course, Novak always showed happiness after winning against Federer or Nadal, but he never disrespected any of them when doing so. Your comment just shows how ridiculous some Fedal fans can be. Smh.
Won't matter. This is not NBA. This is individual sport and they both played at the same time. There is no skirting around. We are not talking About NBA
This was the moment federer knew he was finished as the dominant force. Man couldn't even take out Nadal on a hardcourt. Djokovic would have slapped man up if he wasn't donking out in 2010. Joke
Roger Federer had already won 13 Grand slams prior to this match. Federer wanted to win to equalize Pete Sampras record. This was the the moment, Roger Federer also felt that It is impossible to beat Nadal. Djokovic also started emerging strong. Federer understood that he could not retire as highest Grand Slam winner like Pete Sampras. The fact is Federer reached 13 Grand slam finals winning 7 after this emotion.
I am a huge Federer fan; but I have to say that he is only a weak era champ and will always be in the shadow of Nadal, Djokovic and maybe even Sampras when achievements are normalized for competition
Here after Federer has announced his retirement. The 2009 he had after this was sensational. Even leading to 2010 AO title. Tennis will never be the same.
