I would love to start cutting with a hand saw. We use a metal cutting blade on a skill saw and it produces a horrible sound.

And why go from a 3x4 into a 2x3? And was the tile open? If so, that clean out isn't going to matter much because can just go in the tile. But I couldn't see it clearly.
