Always great to see Slayer with Jeff R.I.P. shredding it up and Dave sitting on the throne just fu*king killing it on the skins! If you want to see them raw and in their prime I suggest checking out Slayer live in Philadelphia 1990 here on RU-vid. It was for their Week In The Abyss tour. They played almost the entire Seasons In The Abyss album except for 2 songs before it was released to the public. Not many bands would have ba!!s to do that. I was there. It was a great show. And as far as VHS bootlegs goes the quality isn't that bad.
Of all the times I saw this band, this performance left me a bit flat. I was there on the day. There is just a succession of slow songs from bloodline onward with the exception of Supremist. Closing out with RIB? Did the run out of time to play Angel of Death? They are all good songs but just didn't generate the energy that Slayer normally do at Donnington.

Before I got this album... WAY back in the day, I remember Marty Freidman saying in a guitar world interview, that guitarists should check out some country style guitar licks cause they can be technically difficult. When I got this album with Zakk Wylde chicken picking in a country type then applying it to a hard rock/metal setting as well?
I was like 16 or 17 so playing fast was what I thought a GOOD guitarist did. After listening to this song, I kinda figured out that Marty and other great guitarists weren't phenomenal just cause he could play fast.
I met Zakk for the first time at a club called Bigshots in 99’. It was 12 bucks to get in. I was 18 yrs old. Hell, I’m 42 now. Crazy. It changed my life. His 800 watt cabs blew everyone’s heads off in the small billiard. Everyone in the band just hung out in the parking lot after the show and bullshitted for a good 45 min after the show. Ahh. The good old days. I am so grateful to have caught the tail end of a really special time for this music we love.
Afortunado
