Romans 15 is not a midrash of Sukkot. To say so is to take great liberty into reading something into that chapter that isn't there. I think your own video proves your point. All the citations Paul makes in Romans 15 does not include a single reference to Leviticus 23. The context of the verses is about people being received as believers. Very few people would read Romans 15 and think it had anything to do with Leviticus 23. Moreover if Romans 15 is a midrash of Leviticus 23 where is Paul's midrash of Leviticus chapters 24-27 found in the book of Romans? Apparently Paul's midrash of Leviticus in Romans was only confined to chapter 23 in a section of the letter that is not talking about God's feasts. Finally Yeshua was not born during Sukkot. Hopefully this comment will be interpreted as constructive criticism.
You’re right Matthew. Romans 15 is specifically not a midrash of Sukkoth. But Romans 15:10-13 is very definitely a Midrash of Leviticus 23:34-43 where Sukkoth is described in detail. In “Finding The Oldest Midrash” (second edition, 2020, 18-23) the discovery of the comparative paradigmatic analysis of Romans and Leviticus is outlined with 43 sequential semblative sections and hundreds and hundreds of semblative words taken from the LXX and placed into the same order by Paul. In this short pericope of four verses Paul links Deuteronomy 32:43, Psalm 117:1, and Isaiah 11:10 with Leviticus 23:34-43 relating them together in binyan av mishnai katuvim, a middot of Hillel. Not only does Paul allude to the birthplace and birthday of the Messiah by this exegetical tool, he prefaced the identity of the Messiah further, “the God of my salvation” (18:46) with a quote of Psalm 18:49. Romans is a complete Midrash of Leviticus with many features of a Hellenistic Judaic Midrash previously not known to exist in the Greek. Here it is perfectly preserved in the New Testament.
@@johndavidpitcher Actually nothing in Romans 15 is a midrash on Sukkot including the verses you cite. There is no reference to Leviticus 23 in the entire chapter. The fact you found a word "rejoice" and tied that to Leviticus 23 does not create a relationship with Sukkot. You are simply reading something into the chapter that is not there nor is the context of Romans 15:10-13 even dealing with God's festivals.
