Thanks for the suggestions. What month were you there? We’ll be there for 4 days the beginning of October and I expect the weather will be similar. I’m expecting lots of rain. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t be too bad. Our plan is to rent a place about an hour north of Edinburgh to make exploring the highlands a bit easier, perhaps around Perth. Do you have any suggestions places further north, or even east or west, to see and perhaps a better location for our rental home? I will check out your other videos.
I’ve been once in March, once in July (unusually sunny) and once in February. So October will be rainy but probably less cold. Scotland is usually super rainy so make sure you take that into account when you plan your itinerary!
Sorry I forgot to add, the Highlands are pretty up in the North. Driving around might slow you down a bit because roads are narrow and if the weather is bad everything almost stops… buses included. I’d say maybe you should be as close as your Highlands itinerary as possible, and add Edinburgh as a separate leg of your trip. Was it me, I’d rent a place in the Edinburgh outskirts to explore the city and then something further north to explore exclusively the Highlands. But that’s just my two cents, plan according to your itinerary!
@@TravellingDany Thanks! I’m definitely planning on rain and am bringing my rain jacket and dressing in layers. I’m traveling with my daughter, her husband, and his mother. All of us are comfortable driving narrow roads from living in the foothills and mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range in California, but good to be aware of how things can shut down due to the weather. We just booked an Airbnb in Stirling last night for this part of our trip. I appreciate your input.
When I was there, I met so many Americans investigating their family. My ex’s grandfather, Vincenzo Checca, was born there steps from the main square. They eventually settled in Rhode Island.
It seems that there was a massive wave of immigrants from Pettorano who moved to the US. I personally love that they still remember the place where they were born! Did you like the town? The views alone are amazing, right?
Holiday isle was a very rickin place. Home of the rum runner. Had banana floats, had a bar that reach out into the water an U could just paddle over never get up an get another drink. Had about 4 tiki bars, dance floor, it was very cool.
Angela this is beautiful! I love that your nephew has decided to go back to his roots! Civitella is an amazing town, I hope they are having a lot of fun and eating all the good food!
I still prefer Hallandale Beach Florida, they got Places like Gulf Stream Park the biggest Horse racing track in Florida, and the Pegasus Statue the second biggest statue in the United States 🇺🇸, and the Big Easy Casino one of the best Casino in Florida and Atlantic Village, find dining and entertainment and South Beach Park on Hallandale Beach,❤and a good nightlife.
This is my next trip. Where I want a place 2-5 months ou5 of the yr. From the the US. Already fell in love with Italy during Christmas and New Year Holidays!❤ Gratzi !💫💥someone send me a nice 2bedroom, 2 bathroom, balconies, mostly finished and under £30,000.
I'll be visiting Antelope Canyon in late April 2024. any tips would be much appreciated. Shooting with Sony A7R3, 24-105/F4 lens. Debating on taking a walking stick with threaded top for my camera or something like a platypod.
Make sure you’re already inside by 12 pm!!! The light is better. As for walking sticks I’d ask your guide to make sure they allow it. I have more info on the blog but please let me know if I can help! www.travellingdany.com/discover-the-secrets-inside-the-antelope-canyon/
Ah bellissimo! Noi frequentiamo quei posti da qualche anno ormai, i genitori di Dany sono ancora alla ricerca di una casa lì da comprare e ci passano svariati mesi ogni anno!
What about Lake Como!! I postponed my trip around the country after just one night on the Lake. Its sooo romantic everywhere and just about an hour from Milan by train or in decent traffic. I LOVE it here!! Thanks for the video! 💗💗
It really is! Sadly it has become a bit crowded and touristy, but still very beautiful! (Dany’s sister has been living in Milan for over 10 years so we’ve been there often. We have noticed the difference now that it’s one of the super popular tourist destinations)
Italy is a big place, if you tell us where you are planning to go we can definitely try to make more videos that can help you with your trip to Italy :) also if you check out our blog there are a ton of free itineraries, places to go, where to eat and what!
I'm fortunate enough to have just visited Atri for a few days. It's a lovely town, and I felt like I was stepping back in time! I was able to see almost everything and more in your video. Thanks for posting this!
It’s truly one of the hidden gems in Italy, don’t you think? It blows my mind how some places are just completely forgotten… and yet to be honest, I’m glad Atri isn’t overcrowded with tourists!
Thanks for the recommendation. I’m currently in Sulmona but headed back to Rome tomorrow to catch a boat. I’m sad to leave Abruzzo after I found out how stunning it is. I’ll try to visit Civitella del Tronto next time.
We’re SO glad you liked Abruzzo! Such an underrated and yet amazing part of Italy! Civitella is gorgeous, if you’re planning a future trip to Italy I suggest you also visit Alba Adriatica to see the coastal area. You can easily reach Civitella by car as it’s way closer than Sulmona!
27 days and counting….. who is going to the 2023 Key West Fantasy Fest? October 20th to 29th. This year‘s theme is “Uniforms and Unicorns” 200 years of sailing into fantasy. The theme reflects the Florida Keys 2023 bicentennial. It’s to celebrate 200 years of the United States Navy in the Florida Keys.
The best way to tour Abruzzo is to hire a car and drive to some of the many hilltop villages in the Apennines. I've done that twice. Nothing beats escaping the crowds of tourists in Rome and driving to the Apennines. My maternal grandfather was from Pettorano sul Gizio. Although his wife's maiden name was "Abruzzese", she was from Casteluccio dei Sauri, a little village in Foggia, Apuglia, and not from Abruzzo. My paternal great-grandfather used to say that he was from Abruzzo. But he was actually from Polizzi, a village in Molise, not Abruzzo. However, when he immigrated to the USA, Molise was part of Abruzzo, hence the confusion.
We think so, too! Abruzzo has so much to offer, especially if you love those small Italian villages off the beaten path and the great outdoors. We always road trip, it’s the best way to enjoy a trip to Abruzzo!
My maternal grandfather, Vincenzo Checca, was born in Pettorano sul Gizio in 1894 and immigrated to the USA in 1910. In 1914, he returned to Italy to fight in the Italian army during WW1 (Don't ask me why.). After the war, my grandfather returned to the USA never to return to Italy. I visited Petorano sul Gizio in 2013. It appears to have changed little since my grandfather's time. My original plan was to retire to Italy when I retire at the end of 2026 as I have UK citizenship. However, BREXIT threw a spanner into my plans. I'm now planning to retire to Argentina.
What a wonderful story! I’m sorry you had to change your plans, but I also hope that Pettorano sul Gizio wasn’t a disappointment, even if it changed a little. We personally loved it a lot and we visit whenever we’re in the area!
There’s a nice hike from Pettorano to a nearby park where there are windmills. It used to be the local “industrial area” back in the day. We’ll have to make a video for RU-vid when we go, it’s super interesting!
