That is a powerfully lazy method! It must have been pretty exciting the first time you tried this. A great way to mix things up and also improve your visual library. Thanks for sharing!
Great vid and loved the idea of using ref pics as a collage to make a unique design (it is unique because only you have thought of using those pics in that way…). Now, let’s see some lazy rendering on these lazy spaceships 😉 you are an inspiration as always!
thank you! 😭🙏 having made several mistakes in my life, I'm currently stuck using sketchbook to finish an important piece of work with a looming deadline and your 5 yr old videos are saving my life
I am sorry I missed this. I find it amazing you can do these sketches in ink so no erasing and they come out purrfect (as my cat would say). how you draw very much reminds me of Feng Zhu. that organic ship is badass, I like the sleek shape of it. oh I bought your gumroad mech process videos. 🙂
@@Houdini_Bob thank you very much for your kind words and your support. I am a big fan of Feng Zhu and definitely learned a lot from him through his design studio videos!
next year i will join into that shiptember thing! Now i'm on SwordTember, it is pretty fun, i choose to keep it simple, nearly cel shaded. They are a bit illustration-like, but it is cool. It was a lovely stream! Thanks
@@robertlkiss good! Work and kids have me busy so not much time to the fun stuff like sketching and watching cool vids like super secret sketching streams 😉 looking forward to the next one though….might even see it as it’s happening! 😂
that first ship kinda looks like a bow tie - humm how about calling it a bow tie fighter? nah that sounds silly. how about tie fighter? thank you for sharing your design idea processes. I like these short rough "lazy" sketching designs, please keep doing them
Loved this vid, it’s great to see you back in the ‘saddle’ and doing fun wee sketches like this. I loved how the design progressed from that odd looking ball thin with wings (is it from Space:1999?), and ended up with the cargo ship design. Lazy sketching is a great way to begin a design but I feel it went a bit far as the rear wing design seems to be flipped on one side…just sayin’ 😉 really looking forward to the next vid when you get time ❤
@@andygorman858 hey the nice thing about putting lazy design in your youtube video title is that people can’t criticise it because it’s lazy, so my hair is brad your argument is invalid! :P
@@robertlkiss I’m not going to post a link but just Google TIE fighter and you will probably seeing pretty much the sama as the original picture. It iconic imperial fighter in Star Wars universe.
I love how you sketch and agree, by being a perfectionist myself, that the lazy approach is the best way to relax and really enjoy the work you do, no pressure. The style of the video is very simple and informative, thank you 🙏
Hey thanks so much for your videos. I notice that your line work is really good. Like precision and control. Can you make a video about how to improve it? Or do you have tips? Thanks!!!
Great video so what if it is not polished the important parts are there and I enjoyed it. I would much rather have a video like this than nothing at all.
This type of video is great! really insightful and inspiring workflow, so simple and effective. Keep talking out loud about your design choices as you go too, because that is the extra gold on top of an already solid workflow overview.
Love your videos! I'm a new subscriber and have been binging them! I've made a ton of progress in a short time watching them! I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a video on capital ships and specifically super structures. I for the life of me cannot figure out how to do a good super structure without over detailing or under detailing. Any help would be greatly appreciated <3~!
@@KaterenaTheRed thank you for subscribing, I hope you will get a lot of value and some entertainment out of my videos :) I will put superstructure onto my to do list.
With all the canon variants of a tie fighter it's almost impossible to make an original design, in fact the final drawing looks kinda familiar... 🤔 Lol jokes apart I really like your videos, I hope that everything goes well and perhaps in a couple years we will see another one drawing something too!
@@KonradKonrad-mz9gp you jest but you are correct on the crazy amount of variants and how hard it is to change that form. Next time I'll take a diffenert base design. And let's see what the future brings just because dad loves drawing does not mean that the son will too :p
I love this video. Your talent is very inspiring and encourages my slight abominations of sci-fi and spacecraft design. Not easy, but I'm not stopping. Thank you
the trouble I share with you is that I jump into any indi/fan-made scifi short film just cos I'm seeing some space ship/mech in the thumbnail and I never remember where I've seen them. lol
