Well...I could see why critics would find the humor to be on the Sandler level, but I have a hunch that coming out during the time of Superbad/Knocked Up/The 40 Year Old Virgin probably didn't help. Different expectations for comedy. Those are all great films that have aged pretty well, but I don't think people realized just how well this movie would age with zero dated references.
