1st of this might be the best version or at least live version I ever heard of this classic. That JT Bass groove breakdown kick back in at 350 u thinks is KILLER...Simon's lyrics always top notch either abstract or around the long way to get to the point. Like even simple like Rio...metaphors galore...cars representing girls and the state of Cali...Hungry LTW to me a top 10 pop classic of all time just chorus like bubblegum for ur ears. They do it with Brit Wit America's go Cheap Trick for power pop gems England's got DD both in their own way own the, chorus melody hook F the versus get to the Hook, thing happening. I remember seeing JT doin a recent bass breakdown or what's in ur bag episode n he put me down with this great new pop band like all dance but pure hook pop I wish I could remember the name but he is a genius at pop n is intricate with that to DDs catalog like Stevie Van Zandt gets no credit for Springsteen's pop gems although all the pop classics on The River 1980 made that album go #1 for 4 weeks n 3 million sold ...after Born In The USA even Born To Run doesn't outsell The River. Shit, they even toured doin thr whole album each nite in 2016 the tour of the freakin year. Tell me that album doesn't rule for fair weather Springsteen and the E Street Band fans. I mean they were in their 60s and after their peak in the 80s n their comeback jn 99 and then 2002 n 03 to have the #1 world tour in 2016 playin an album from 1980 nnur in ur 60s says a whole f'ing lot. Wen I would tell ppl The River album doesn't get respect it's due from Bruce himself ebeethin was USA or Born to Run or Darkness finally The River got it. Stevie was responsible for most of the reason the album blew up bc it was the first jn their 5 album career at that point the first of those albums to shoe the lighter , pop power pop 3 min gems uptempo happy side of them..of the 20 songs about 10 were pop gems n concert staples to be. And bout 8 to 12 that didntmake the album r power pop gems now. Check Tracks album Disc #2. Anyways not to get totally sidetracked but my point is the Pop hook thing isn't so ez to nail and DD belong in the Hall of Fame if not for anything else but for incredible bass drum tandom killer abstract lyrics and between New Moon , Hungry and Rio alone 3 pop slash power pop jams happy to melancholy they kill it. JTs ghost notes hit me in thr feels EVERY TIME!!! THANK U
This was the surprising standout track for me on Rio. Been a compelling and beautiful song in my life since '82. This is a very strong performance . So good to see that they are still good.
Yes Rebecca you get it too! His voice is toast in the chorus. And the chorus "is" what makes this song so special. The saving grace is while.he has a history of struggling with this tune, he does well on most of the other songs performed live. Great observation for "hearing" the straining. Most of the other commentors aren't listening at all just checking out the visuals. Pity!
As usual for DD, being great is super easy, barely an inconvenience. Wow wow wow wow.... wow. I often wonder if Simon can play any notes on an ocarina other than those in 'The Chauffeur'.
So Simon cant do the high notes anymore. I still wouldve loved to hear my favorite DD song at the Hollywood Bowl. And I know the HB audience wouldve brought the energy like they did here. Great to see them bring New Moon live again !
WOW! A re-do that was truly respectful and referenced the original version but included modern elements. Duran Duran proves, once again, that they are making good music and are relevant in 2024!
OMG! How Amazing was that! My Fave DD song and takes me right back to when I first played the RIO album....still to this day it is as unique and chilling as it was back then! Seen DD in April 2023 and the opening was THE Nightboat....also brilliant ...❤ Thanks for sharing this it will be on repeat!!!!!!😊
