C. S. Lewis liked it better than "Land of Hope and glory". He said the right love for the homeland has to be light and happy and not religious. "The four loves"
"Some speak of Alexander, and some of Hercules Of Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these. But of all the world's brave heroes, there's none that can compare. With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, to the British Grenadiers!"
"Hier feiern wir Laurentius." Here we celebrate Laurentius. Through heredity, experience or circumstance, some Americans become Anglophiles. Others become Francophiles, and others still, Teutonophiles. And, then there are an eccentric handful of Americans (such as Yours Truly) who appreciate not merely English culture, but also French culture and German culture, and thus become Anglophiles, Francophiles & Teutonophiles! C'est mois, c'est mois -- 'tis I. Nicely done, meine Gesellen!!
I had no idea this was played by German musicians, but when the bells came about I had a feeling some German element was involved. What an awesome production. I absolutely loved it. Greetings from the US.
