Shulem Lemmer’s rendition of “Modim anachnu lach” (beginning at 13’ 28”), inimitably accompanied by the great Menachem Bristowski, would deserve to become a benchmark of hazzanut because of its exemplary phrasing, fervent earnestness and affecting intensity, eloquently enhanced by beautiful portamentos, diminuendos, rinforzandos.
Shulem Lemmer’s lovingly honed, chastely elating rendition, exquisitely accompanied by Menachem Bristovsky, turns out to be a model of Jewish bel canto: flawlessly flowing “legato”, intelligent vocal colouring, deep spiritual commitment as well as unfailing, purely musical tension.
So delighted to track Rabbi and Cantor Nachman down on RU-vid to thrill at yet another soulful prayer expression after first finding his Ma’oz Tor with the Concertebao due to our humble rehearsal of it here in Hilo, Hawaii for a scheduled performance next month and the need to hear correct pronunciation and phrasing. Nachman is top notch. Clearly his spiritual development is matched by his God given vocal gift. The harpist is a perfect accompaniment. Deep gratitude to you both.
