Brilliant explanation for a mundane but common problem. I run painting crews & can tell you that the amount of plasters who don't know how to do this is prevalent.
I bought one. Pretty good but sometimes it is frustrating to poke the line through the spool. If the line has a curve at the end it can take a lot of practice to get it through. I'm on top of it now, but for a while I wondered if I had done the right thing. The bottom part wears out like all of them. I might try to make mine more hard wearing somehow.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! After half an hour of frustration, I ran into your video, and water in the desert does not even begin to describe the relief, I was able to remove the handle in three minutes after that. Advice: see the entire video and then get to work. Thanks again.
What bill is describing is a very typical issue in garage areas, usually near the roll a doors mainly due to the extremes in temperature and humidity changes from the dwelling areas and outside, the garage can get to be over 20 degrees hotter in summer than the outside area, I've been in roof spaces where the outside temperature is 'measured' at 42oC, however remember that's measured 'in the shade' so the actual temperature may be 30o Hotter. The roof space measured 56oC, which will cause the ceiling sheets to 'bow and sag', as the adhesives crystalise and become brittle, also the plaster or drywall lining sheets weaken as the moisture is expelled from them (plaster - gypsum sheets, absorb and expel moisture) and so they will 'breath' with humidity changes also creating issues. By using supplementary fastenings (Stud Adhesive) and permanent fasteners - nails or screws the ceiling can be made to return to it's original position. Leave the temporary props in place as long as you can as the sag or bow will need to be relieved to become flat again. - Great Video.
I just posted this as an answer to Tesseract's question:- Black ants and termites will co-exist, termites are used as 'cattle' for black ants particularly in winter when food for the ant colony is scarce, and the soldiers from the termite colony, around 5% of the total number are the 'enforcers' who will take on the Ants for defence. Termites are sometimes called 'white ants' but they are a completely different species. The only way to tell the difference between termites is to compare the soldiers - in Australia we have around 400 different species of termites, but only 3 are a problem for structures, in Far North Queensland they are extremely veracious and can in a very short time cause significant damage to a structure. They have 2 breeding flights a year typically Around October and March, also either just before or just after a thunder storm, when the humidity is over 95% and 30o Celsius. They swarm in their millions from hives.
If we have not that scraper can we use another pointed tool? And the mesh tape is fiberglass right? sorry my silly questions, I'm a layman in the matter.
Were the gutters done in matte or satin? It didn’t look like gloss. And, Bill, when you cleaned up the gutters and facia did you ‘rough up (or lightly sand) before applying the first coat?… and did you apply a second coat? Sorry, lots of questions.
I don't understand anything about that, sorry if my question is silly. I have a crack in a ceiling and you are so enlightening that it made me want to repair it myself. My problem is that I don't know what "cement" is used. Would it be possible to indicate the characteristics of the "cement" and if you indicate a brand it would be easier for me to search that product. I'd rather buy something already prepared, I don't want to have to mix things, I'm not very good at that. Thank you so much.
