I played football and always thought I was small because I hung out with all the lineman lifting with them I was 6’ 230 still into my 30’s and in shape and for the first time thought I’m not small when I was out in public😂 it really depends on how you compare yourself to your friend group and how big they are as opposed to the general public.
After losing 80lbs over the last year and a half I needed to hear this... Very validating now that I'm doing a maintenance phase because I'm so diet fatigued.
I think i misinterpreted what you meant by not focusing on weak points. I would never suggest that a lifter spend all this time of energy trying to bring a list of that he doesn't have the leverage to ever make great. But within the list itself what is dance is held back by the triceps I think it's a good idea to work on those muscle groups. Where they should be without spending too much time he needs eliminate weak links in the chain. Because theift will only be as good as the weakest contributing muscle.
Good to hear your guys’ thoughts on the Van Wyk situation. Absolutely absurd that it happened. Really disappointed in the people around him who have continued to dismiss his actions and enable him further.
Even worse than Mike's actions is seeing the support that he's gotten, especially on Instagram, from fellow troglodytes. Bro Chat podcast spent about 45 minutes coming up with the most pea-brained takes imaginable.
@@punkandlifting I'm perpetually disappointed by those at the top of the fitness industry. The amount of right-wing, intolerant, knuckle-headed nonsense that you have to wade through to listen to the elite guys is maddening. I literally fast forward through anything that could even be considered politics adjacent on Bro Chat because nothing boils my piss more than listening to people who don't have a clue about a topic get all indignant about it as if they're actually saying anything.
@@robbiewalker8403 you can’t even argue in the comments because they just call you woke and complain about cancel culture and regurgitate right wing talking points. They can’t wrap their head around an actually informed nuanced explanation of things behind their right wing outrage
Lean mass BMI is a scientific metric for how much a natty can weigh at a certain height and body fat. Big Ramy being 240lbs at 4-5% at his height is absolutely impossible.
I feel like outside of the US natural bodybuilding is so much bigger compared to the US which is more enhanced like around me where I'm at I have to drive 4 hours to the nearest natural show verses NPC shows are everywhere
Van Wyk’s callout was clearly aimed at Israetel, along with other science-based lifters, which is somewhat more understandable given RP's recent shift toward clickbait-driven, condescending, know-it-all callout videos of their own.
Im a lone wolf in training. I train at home. The gym culture is just not my thing. Too much peacocking in a gym. Been training for 17years. Will never go back again
The generally accepted best bond of all time, ‘64 Sean Connery is clearly generally fit and healthy, undeniably handsome, but far far from jacked or super lean by today’s standards. I would argue that Daniel Craig, while not being “Dr. Mike jacked”, is exponentially more jacked (and shorter?) than any other bond actor I can think of. I do agree that the Bond catalog does not fit as jacked for their time relative to the rest of the film industry, but the bond franchise has always stood apart from the movie industry writ large, with the obvious caveat that the industry frequently attempts to emulate the successes of the Bond franchise
I just got bamboozled o. Line ..I lift 4-5 days a week cardoon .do all the protien diet thing Have watch all of Mike's videos two times each lol but posted a Pic asking for advice how to get rid of my belly /hip fat. I did have nice people who gave me great advice as I. Gain more muscle to make rest of body look smaller .. but 80 percent just killed me with self love comments .. and how I have body dismorphia.. like I don't know this already.. itsnsad people jusy don't understand. We are perfectionist.. we are never good enough..we do t mean to be this way .. what we see and how we feel is real. Even though I know people out there are dying to.have my body..my discipline. It's not all gravy .. people need to walk im each other's shoes one time or another
Kind of weird that you keep platforming these rants. Cool stuff if you're into Joe Rogan level of chatter, but if you want aome actual restraint and intellectual humility, this is not it. People enjoy hearing him talk almost as much as he does himself, so this is just gonna run on unchecked
A little sad Mike's perspective of the body image issue epidemic is not well thought through. Usually his comparisons are decent but saying "most people dont want to look like Ronnie, so theres not an issue with young people taking stëröïds to get muscular" is like saying "most women dont want to look like Foxy Menagerie, so breast implants arent very popular" Foxy and Ronnie are so exponentially far removed from the equation that using them as examples makes no sense. Yes, almost no one wants to look like Ronnie. But most guys DO want to look like Jeff Nippard, Alan Hutchson, Chris Hemsworth, et cetera, and for a lot of guys (maybe most if we consider survivorship bias in fitness) that IS NOT POSSIBLE without g e a r. And we know from data and observation that people using ⚙️ to get those "high end 'natural' physiques" is increasing at an absurd rate, especially among young men.
Since anything people see now is perfect curated social media style pictures and videos of people who either do it for a living and are natural… or do it for a living and are enhanced but pretend like they’re not… it’s easy to see why most men (women are not remotely close to out of this conversation but less on the jacked end… more on the thinner, in shape, bikini and sports bra shots and blah de blah [not PED related]) are jumping to get that body. It really doesn’t help, and I wouldn’t quite call it body dysmorphia, that people aren’t getting those shots. I in general don’t walk around with a shirt on in my house (just kept that all the way since childhood) and the difference in lighting from the master bathroom and a space bathroom can look like 4% difference in body fat. If all someone sees is some shitty lighting in a 45 year old bathroom at their house… you are going to think you look significantly worse than someone with $15,000 in downlighting for their brand. Jeff Nippard is a great example (not even talking about the production part). Bruv is 5’5” with 1% genetics especially on his chest (the rest of his muscles aren’t THAT impressive really but the dude has full shape very symmetrical titties that are just genetic to have that shape and fullness and it makes his upper half look very large . Just alone the 5’5” is going to make all of his muscles look larger because they’re squished on a smaller frame. Unfortunately, the longer limbs you have the more muscle has to be put on to have the same shape.
Yeah, I've been listening to Dr. Mike on this podcast since like 2018. I'm glad that he finally has gotten the recognition he deserves because his stuff has been incredible, and was kinda a hidden secret for the longest time. I remember when half of his interviews used to have his camera stomach level and you are just staring up at him the whole time haha
I understand that those reversing will regain weight but what is the weight distribution? How much of the weight regained is muscle and how much is fat mass? Do they end up gaining more fat? It would also be interesting to know exactly what these studies are/ how fast they’re adding in calories and taking our cardio during these reverse diets
Hey mate, I've just finished cutting from 130kgs to 92kgs sitting around 12.5% body fat. I have decided to start my bulking phase as I didn't see the point cutting to 10% when I know I have gaining I want to do and I was very over dieting. Did I make the right call?
I'm not sure body dysmorphia ever completely goes away. To this day, I'll have to psych myself up to go to the beach. It's okay, I'll tell myself, there's all types of bodies there. I'll walk out and other than a few 14yr old girls, I'm the thinnest one on a real people beach and the only woman with defined abs. Yet I didn't want to put on a suit in public
Arnold changed everything. I remember it well. Once Arnold came and did movies, everything changed, even Captain America changed to 6'2" and 240 lbs. He was the most influential bodybuilder to affect Hollywood.
Harnessed body dysmorphia and eating disorders became my friends that prevent me from getting fat again 😁 Thank you for great podcast, Mike is amazing edit: If you have problems comparing to anyone, cause in your eyes you are always small, find a picture of someone you think is jacked, and put your photo next to it but cover your head. Tends to work to scam your brain 😁
