@@fluffkitten4339 Unfortunately, I didn’t have presence of mind to save an image. Regardless, I’ve never “listened” to an instrument with my eyes., therefore you are most likely correct. The Haas was advertised with provenance at $20k. The Pandemic was an unusual time, a drop dead copy of the Family Taskin harpsichord for $4K in San Diego by a graduate student’s thesis, a perfect Dolmetsch 2 manual with 16’ register for free, German Serian 2 manual for free (required repairs) fromand bargains galore such as 2 manual French build from a Boston builder for $6k…A late Herz French at make offer in the low teens, which had the funds to purchase all, but renting a truck etc. could have been a death sentence…and my immediate family dissuaded me, and I wouldn’t have risked their health for a bargain. I recall the Haas hadn’t been played in “years”, and I have a policy of never buying an instrument without hearing it played or playing it first. There was a work related fact 18hours7daysaweekholidaysincluded work schedule from Dec 2019 onwards until recently, after the first death from an unknown pathogen that was later attributed to CoVid 19 SARS occurred in Riverside, CA from a healthy man in his Mid 30s who had gone to Florida went to Disney World and Universal Studios Florida died in a week mid December early December and earlier a women both of which had from an unknown disease which turned out to be the South African strain and not the Chinese variant. So my families fears weren’t unfounded and, “but you already own a piano…”

Dear Mr. Lebedinsky, Once again, thank you for introducing this harpsichord to us your listeners. What a beautiful instrument to both the ear and the eye. Your improvisation, as always, brought out the best of the instrument. You state that this instrument was restored by The Harpsichord Shop. Do you do this kind of work, or do others do the restoration? Is your position one of of performance? Lastly, do you still play the organ and conduct the choir at an Episcopal Church? Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis London, Ontario, Canada.

Hello Larry, thank you for the kind words. My crew and I do the restorations. I do the finish work and voicing myself. While I am primarily a performer and scholar, I love working with my hands (thanks, Dad) and consider it part of my regular spiritual practice. I've served churches for the past 30 years, and I'm currently at St. Augustine's-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church on Whidbey Island, WA, where I serve as Missioner for Music - basically a lay deacon position for music and the liturgical arts, play a lovely little Martin Pasi tracker organ, and lead the choral program.

@@TheHarpsichordShop Dear Sir, Thank you for your generous reply. It is very interesting to see how it all fits together. I had no idea that there was such a wide variety of instruments, and such an incredible range of sound. Back in the late 1950’s, I happened to see a reel-to-reel film of Wanda Landowska. This was the very first time I heard a harpsichord. I will never forget it as long as I live; she was playing Bach’s Italian Concerto. As you know, she played with great verve and energy. This film, among others of her, are now all available over the internet. So, I have been able to recall this formative experience. I am very glad you told me about your position as organist and choirmaster at St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church. It sounds like a good fit for you and the parish. Where does your church fit along the Episcopal Church spectrum? Back in the mid 1960s and early 1970s I travelled to Toronto, Ontario from time to time and attended the Church of S Mary Magdalene. This was Healy Willan’s Church for many, many years. I heard him a few times. He played there virtually until he died, if my memory serves me correctly. The first time I attended Tenebrae there, Healy Willan was still the organist and choirmaster, and, naturally, the Responsories were Willan’s own. It was one of those experiences, never to be forgotten, and often recalled and savoured, parallel in some ways, to hearing the harpsichord for the first time. It was good to hear from you. I look forward to your showcasing new instruments. Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis London, Ontario, Canada.

The first time I ever heard a portative organ was on _Jethro Tull's_ "Heavy Horses" album, charmingly played by _Dee Palmer._ That's when I fell in love with its sound. As with (in my opinion) all pipe organs, the portative sound deserves a proper venue -- one with suitable reverberation. Then again, the _necessity_ for a portative organ may sometimes be driven by the lack of space!
