I do anything ho scale trains I can I don't normal do videos on real locomotes, but I have, I curranty make RU-vid shorts, reviews and, just videos of ho scale trains running. But its dose change sometimes.
The box change should not be a negative in this comparison. More than one manufacturer has changed their packaging recently. I know for a fact that one other HO manufacturer actually tests their locomotive packaging by throwing models from a staircase onto a concrete floor, and they found that these plastic clamshells are better. The soft cushy foam you like so much is NOT good enough to survive some shipping. You actually DO NOT want the model to move around in the box--that's how they get broken.
Very interesting and informative. I have an HO scale Bachmann K4 that I purchased a little over 10 years ago, and while it runs fune for the most part, I noticed it occasionally runs into issues when entering a #4 turnout (i.e. lead trucks derailing, tender coming off the track). I've only noticed these issues since converting my layout to DCC, and was wondering if you had any tips/suggestions.

This is cool. I had HO scale when I was a kid. I’d love to get a nice set up to introduce my 7 year old to the hobby. Is that something I could reasonably expect to accomplish for $500-$700? For size I’m thinking two 4x8 sheets of plywood. Maybe as an L shape.
$500-$700 would work to create a layout that includes DCC and some engines and cars. I would recommend getting a lot, so you can have a bunch of cars and a few cheap engines. Later, you can sell anything you don't like. This way you can get a nice start, and later on you can work on selling things and buying nicer or more specific items. You might not get any engine with dcc It just depends on the lot you buy, so you might just have to sell all the engines and then get some. For the L-shaped layout, as long as you have room for the loops, it should work fine.

They are pretty good models with ok pulling power, but if you get the paragon 4 version make sure to lower the smoke unit CVs so you don’t melt the boiler.
@@derekonxbox I don’t remember and I can’t check right now with the layout being torn down and put in boxes but I would recommend lowering the CVs to the point when you look down the smokestack you see little to no red glow
