My tacoma is brand new. The soft close stoped working and I found out other than the broken plastic piece, it also bent the metal part that accommodates it. Toyota says it is not on the warranty, but it did bend in its own, as it did brake the plastic piece. Just came here to see if anybody else had the same problem.
@@FabioFerreira-hg3gw it seems pretty easy to bend the metal piece. Anything can fall in between the tailgate and the bumper and push the tailgate to bend
1800? Apparently I couldn't find as good a vendor as you! When I went through aliexpress, the best I could find was 3,000, now don't get me wrong, that's still half of a smart cap, but it's almost double what you paid! I eventually found one of those resellers locally who were reselling at $3,000, and considering I couldn't find it cheaper in China, I ended up buying it locally.
How you enjoying it so far? What province are you from I’ve been looking into the same thing. There is one guy in bc selling them for $3800 I’d much rather pay 2k less. If you were inside the canopy sleeping and someone closed the latch’s in the door(without locking with the ?key?) could you get out
It will be interesting to see how it holds up in a Canadian winter. How long till the hardware rusts and have you carried a rooftop tent and does it hold up to the weight and offroad abuse? I have a RSI SmartCap but they're obscenely overpriced and even they have their issues.
Thank you for posting this! It was a very easy fix after watching the video. When I explained the problem and asked if the part was in stock at my McKinney, TX Toyota dealership they wouldn't even talk to me about it unless I agreed to pay a $200 fee for an "expert technician" to have a look at it. That would be on top of the charges for repair. My warranty had expired 1month earlier.
Thank you for this valuable info!!!!! So I have a 2022 Taco< I have had this issue twice, well 3 times. The original one broke, dealer fixed it(no change under warranty), 5 months later again it broke(fixed at dealership, no charge, under warranty. Here is the kicker, for the dealer to fix it they have to replace the dampener & the "hinge", so it has to be painted to match truck color. A 3 hour job!!!! So from now on I do it the way you showed us here.....thanks for the great info. Also Toyota Corporate does not recognize this as a problem.....
I was gonna leave my truck in the dealership tomorrow to replace the whole tailgate because I thought it was all broken, I do not even want to know how much it was going to be lol
@@CaritoTime I have the OTT tune . Was very impressed with the performance of it. I’m always looking for true performance mods to help with performance and fuel mileage. Did you add the TRD air filter too?
@peteniemela9900 I use a FRAM air filter. I had a K&N oil filter but I didn't like the possibility of it ruining the MAS. Plus I hated cleaning it haha.
I am running the OTT9 tune. I absolutely love it. It is the perfect mod for the engine and transmission. Improves the Throttle response and shifting points. I have taken my truck into the dealership many times and I have heard no complaints regarding my warranty. I've been told that the dealer ship does not have the tools to detect the tunes. If they did, most would not have a problem.
I ordered the part from Toyota and it doesn't work on my model. I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma. The dealership used my VIN and said it would fit but no luck.
I have a 2012 also. Was wondering if I could use these. Didn't come with any, just a regular old fall down tailgate. Do you know if they can be added? (When they weren't originally there)
There is some wind noise but nothing excessive. I didn't see a huge difference from when I had it off and on while driving. I believe the rubber trim helps eliminate any whistling that other users have reported.
