Did not think I'd make it up there, felt slow. Maybe tires/tire heat played a role. I was conscious of saving them, practice I burnt them down to 50% in 8 laps. How dare I attempt to pass though, thats their spot.
Sucks to see how much you got used up. Pretty much been my experience this week in this series. If they can't make the pass with setting it up, they just dive it in/move you.
I've just come to the point where just got to give it right back. Not wrecklessly of course, but if they're going to dive it up with no warning, they should expect it in return. Really only the first guy I didn't care how he raced me. The others think it went pretty well. The off track I had spun the tires on the grass on reentry and sent me over a lane. Its short track road racing though, should be a little contact! The hitbox though has a problem, small taps are 4xs. I was a little worried about DQ.
Was going great until it wasn't. Tough place to be when cars start losing it in front. Pack racing is a coin flip. Now we can move on to the real races, ha.
Yeah, think I still like the bottom over any other lane in that situation. This car is a tank. I think I was fine, just missed the draft getting it back up to speed.
It drives pretty different to a stock car, have to attack the corners on entry with the downforce the car has, but also maximize exit speed with long straights.
Wow, an actual good session at Martinsville. It's a fun track with the right group. Bummer I missed out on this one. Luckily you and Mathias kept it straight earlier on. Otherwise, it was a nice, clean run.
Very difficult to pass while keeping it clean, but thanks to this group it's a good challenge and you can actually get laps under green. Glad he kept it together, never meant to get into him.
Reviewed the replay but didn't include, first one got pinched but the second one was my fault. I wanted to make sure I was in there, but was little too hot. Luckily I didn't have to try a third time.
This track might be a little big for 3rd gear, got an oil temp warning that I've not had anywhere else. Even Knoxville I thought was a much on throttle or more, but I dont remember getting a temp warning, especially with so many laps to go.
your next video should be how to heel and toe down shift. i understand your point of view with the 3 pedal dance; although i think if you learn to work the clutch even in nascars you'll find some speed. just a suggestion thought. great video
Ive done a little heel toe, my rig isn't set up for these pedals so it's uncomfortable to do it long. It would be more consistent, I would not miss a gear, and I might be able to get just as quick. But I do think there is a benefit of being able to get right back to the gas without shuffling pedals.
This work with sequential shifting? I only have paddles, about to get a Fanatec wheel and get rid of Logitech wheel so the only time I use my shifter is for the 87s, not for the life of me can I paddle shift and clutch but changing gears and clutching was simple, and I figured it was something like how your (ig rev matching/clutchless shifting) I imagine it’s something to do with it just being stuck in that position of let’s say 3rd Vs me clicking a button that un clicks itself immediately
The 87s must be listed incorrectly in that link. They are definitely Synchromesh. I've been cheesing with a formula wheel which gives me paddle shifters and paddle clutches which makes it easier for me than trying to heel/toe.
They must. I searched the iRacing forums and I think I saw only one person mention it a few years ago. The dog box transmissions shift without a load on them, which is definitely not the case with the 87s. Though in my brief research of the introduction of dog box style transmissions into Nascar, I found some Reddit comment that said Jericho transmissions were used starting in the late 80s, which replaced the super t-10 style. For the 87 cars iRacing lists the transmission as Borg Warner Super T-10 4-speed manual, so before the dog box if the Jericho was the first. Do you have to hold the paddle for it to shift or does it drop right in when the RPMs are right?
@Racer57 would be nice to get an h pattern with some sort of device to prevent the gear going on until you clutch or Rev match like in a real transmission. Sucks to think you shifted properly, hit the throttle to get no response then fumble around with the controls to find a damn gear. A lot easier in a real car
The RPM speed has to be high enough to match/exceed the speed of the transmission for the gear to engage when going into a lower gear if you aren't using the clutch. What I do is take it out of gear, stab the throttle and put it into the lower gear when the RPM gets to its peak. It should go into gear. If its not, you aren't giving it enough RPMs to get into gear. A couple times I didn't give it enough throttle to get it in gear. If you are still in neutral, you either have to clutch it, or again give it more throttle and it will go into gear.
I didn't think so either. Practice wasn't good, I decided to just brake earlier than I thought was needed and hope everybody drives off. It worked, almost perfectly.
Wow. I have never seen this footage before today.!! Nice work. That young Mr.Rafoss is 1 serious competitive dude. Well done!!! 2 thumbs up. You kept up.
I lived about 6 miles or so away from this track and loved to hear the roar from the cars. Usually just one or two cars it sounded like but man, sounded so good. Excited to watch this one!
Whoa, what happened? Did you blink out? Damn internet. You were running good laps and I was picking up on how to properly drive these 87s on a short track. Enjoyed your vid nevertheless.
I will have to get my iRacing subscribed to again at some point, Im currently using Automobilista 2 and the remastered modded Richard Burns rally at the moment. Quality video!!!
Now I can see how you were driving the Supercar I can clearly see that I was overdriving mine. I really needed to be less aggressive on the brake pedal.
