My career includes working at WBIR-TV during the best years for local news (92-2005). Hoped over to TDOT and worked on some great projects like SmartFIX40 with some of the best people in the world! Now, I'm at TVA and helping tell about all the great work the company does and its employees on social media. My latest project is sifting through totes of VHS tapes found in my parent's basement. I'm adding as much as I can here for everyone to reminisce and enjoy. Right now, most tapes are from the late 80's (when I was in high school) and the 90's.
I remember this game too, was driving to Orlando the day after from Chattanooga. I had my Tennessee Flag flying and people were passing me with Fla tags and shooting me the bird. Lol
I was a news staffer at WBIR for this. So was future ABC News Good Morning America host Deb Roberts. Ahead of the game WBIR ran a promotion that featured on-air personalities Kesling, Patterson, and Carter as characters mimicking the Blues Brothers. The promotion ran for a few weeks before the matchup, and proved so popular that when the trio showed up at Tennessee fan events in New Orleans uncontrolled chaos broke out.
Tennessee won this game and OU won the Natty.... If OU and Miami both had won.... OBVIOUSLY Miami would have won the Natty... the WILD WEST days of College 🏈 --- I LOVED it
I was there. It was like being in Neyland Stadium. The crowd was at least 90 per cent Vol fans. Tennessee gave Testaverde and the Canes an ass kickin they won't forget! They all totally overlooked Tennessee and had a good plate of crow to eat.
One of the great moments in Tennessee Football history At that time nothing had happened i the state of Tennessee that was bigger This game ranks right along side the national championship in 98 as the most special nights in Tennessee history
