Let’s just be honest with ourselves here, most people out here hating on GOW are basement dweller goobers who haven’t played it and most likely prefer other consoles. Which is fine however jumping on a hate bandwagon on a game you don’t even play is beyond pathetic
I see what you mean but you are part of the problem homie. You didn't put your bias aside (you clearly like gow and that ok). You could just put yourself in his shoes and see that he might have a point. God of war has fairly mediocre gameplay and focuses on story and visuals (which is the point) but some people think it makes it less of a game, because a game in their head is something that's all gameplay.
I played the game myself and I did not enjoy the gameplay and sitting in my chair waiting to press something. I instead watched all the cutscenes on youtube which was a way better experience. The issue here is that the gameplay is relatively pointless unlike elden ring for example.

People have always disliked GOW 2018 and Ragnarok since release. I personally also dislike it (I have NO problem at all if you like 2018 and Ragnarok). I really do not like how the game removed the hack and slash formula the original GOW games had. I also didn’t like how they watered down the climbing/parkour sections either. It was just so tedious and boring and slow. Like I know the modern version of GOW is meant to look different, but I just simply don’t like that. IMO, the game could’ve been better if it still had the hack and slash formula and more rewarding QTE like the old games had instead of just a “R3 you’re good to go.” I can admit that learning combos on 2018 and Ragnarok can be fun, addicting and rewarding though. Even the Valkyrie boss fights are fun to go against!
I'm just happy we're getting something that hopefully is on par with the first one or better and I think it's going to be really good in my opinion sucker punch has not let me down with any of their games so far I am happy to say
I have to agree. I recently replayed God of War 3 and then Ragnarok. They are different experiences: one is game with cinematic quality, the other is a movie with buttons. Back in the old days, every QTE moment was special, the wait for random button to appear, the joystick QTE, and the epicness as everything going plus every fail in QTE have different consequences like in 1 QTE you can get 5 different ways to die. In Ragnarok, the QTE-s are barely QTE, they are just cutscenes with button pressing but not even all events have buttons so it really fools you into a false anticipation. Plus the change of gameplay from bird eye camera angle back in the Hack n Slash days to cameraman perspective in current RPG style really tone down the combat. Plus the anti-climactic cutscenes and final battle, like when Thor died Kratos and Atreus was just standing there looking like idiots who didn't even know what's happening until the boss fight started. And then the anticlimactic Odin boss fight, heck even Baldur-Freya on Thamurs corpse was far better than this boss fight with satisfying QTEs, and we're supposed to believe this boss is the Zeus of the Norse Gow? All else, Norse God of War felt more like an experiment, to see if new styles can fit into the IP and I gotta say gameplay wise, not so much, but story, they did well on making us curious about what's coming next
"Where did all this hate come from?" Simple, the honeymoon phase is over. So now people are able to critique the game without the Sony fanboys attacking them. Plus this game has A LOT of flaws. 1) No replay value, it's one & done. 2) It's a movie game 3) Kratos was emasculated 4) Sweet Baby Inc. 5) Forced Diversity 6) Atreus & Freya were annoying. 7) Thor & Odin were lame and pathetic 8) Ragnarok itself was underwhelming 9) Should have been 2 games, not 1 10) You only kill 1 god. 11) Story was bad. 12) Wasted opportunity with mythology. 13) Marvel writing cringe dialogue 14) Fenrir reduced to Clifford 15) IRONWOOD This was not a God of War game, this was Sony normie oscar bait.

My reason for hate is because It's got bug's, need graphics card vram of 6gb and believe me many people around the world have 4gb of gpu and don't got decent specs this is mine story why I boycott GOWR even though I don't hate Santa Monica studio but hate the Sony company plus there's also one other reason why people are hating is because it needs internet connection also well Sony account to play

Couldn’t agree more bout gow3, it’s the best at all terms, I’m so frustrated when I see people ranking 2018 at the best, and most of them haven’t played the originals, they don’t understand that it has the best story and meaning to give that even when everything is destroyed full of rage and anger there is still hope and even if you accomplish your goals, you want to give hope to others because Kratos never had hope before and after losing everything and killing everyone, he even managed to return from the dead thinking Pandoras words
Sweet Baby Inc's involvement with GOW Ragnorok is the only reason people hate it, and it's somewhat well founded, because everything this consultant company touches is trash. The game isn't bad, but would have been better without them.
The story and gameplay became soooooo dumbed down. I hated the narrative GOW reboot fanboys spread that the original games were just button masher or kratos is a shallow character next to his reboot counterpart. Replaying god of war 3 made me remember why the reboot is booooring asf.

Even though sweet baby inc ruined some character designs and some dialogue God of war ragnarok is still my second faborite behind gow3. The combat. Side quests. Side bosses and character building is really good. If sweet baby inc wasnt included people would rightfully praise this game more.
Ive been a fan on the series every since my father introduced it to me on the ps2. I love it way more now than ever. I know everyone has different opinions but if you hate the game because its "woke" or not as gory or has nudity as OG god of war man i just feel bad for you. Enjoy the game and dont rant about it to feel better about your sorry divorce. Dudes are giving me divorce father vibes or angry incels that scream woke everytime.
There will always be people that hate on something. In situation though I feel the problem is that the games are a bit overrated. Sure they are good games, but far from perfect or masterpieces. The only really exceptional things are the graphics and the crazy set pieces, so it's natural that the console warriors will come to shit on it.
I yapped a lil about how GOW Ragnarok's story felt a weak, but I enjoyed the series all the same. The hate on Kratos rn was strong when Wukong dropped and now it's stronger cuz Space Marine dropped. Call it "New Toy" syndrome; Mfs pick up a game and it's all fun til they get bored, then they have a strong hatred for it when something new catches their eye

Ragnarok is still a good game, but some aspects of the story and pacing are off. Kratos himself is fine, I played all the god of war games to date, his character and his motivations makes sense for where he is currently. But everything to do with atreus, angraboda, and the giants and their prophecies just felt like the writing wasnt there. That whole ironwood segment is the worst part of that game. They set up a plot line only for it to amount to nothing(maybe a sequel). And again the prophecy bs was confusing. These altars show prophecies, but its not accurate, so the real version is seen inside. The "true" ragnarok prophecy depicts a champion of the jotnar(loki/atreus) and the god of war( obviously kratos b/c duh..) defeating odin and destroying asgard. Fine love it fake prophecies to throw off odin, real one inside, then the death prophecy....where kratos dies to thor? And atreus goes with odin. Ok....but the true ragnarok prophecy only comes to pass due to how kratos and atreus react after seeing the death prophecy.....so that prophecy isnt true, its just gaslighting. Then the say Faye somehow saved them by destroying the final panel in the first game, which makes little sense since it 1: doesnt happen and 2: she still leaves the image of dead kratos to gaslight kratos into simply training atreus and avoiding anything about tyr, giants and loki. Which irritates atreaus into looking for tyr, which sets them on the path toward ironwood, seeing the death panel, and causing the events leading to ragnarok. So Faye gaslights her husband and son into wiping out her enemies. An oversimplification, but still....
