I'd like to de-bunk some BS. I bought a DS Sport, really nice 3 yr old HSE example. I am out in the sticks, our village has zero thefts from home. I have full no claims with a 3rd party Ghost Immobiliser, Scorpion tracker & despite my UWB car rumoured to not need it, I use a Faraday box & Wallets. In addition Land Rover HAVE moved towards improved security, the keyless feature can be switched off from the fob, negating the weakness entirely & they have utilised UWB wide band technology (cannot be scanned through the letterbox). With these measures my car must be safer than most but I was turned down flat by most companies, including the company I had been with for 11 yrs. I managed to find a low feature £1k policy. Nobody wanted to hear about any of the measures I or LR had taken to make it a poor choice to steal. Wankers to a man !
11:04 A completely different yacht though. Most sailing yachts like this are Ocean-capable which means that they'll always endure worse conditions than many of their motor-boat counterparts, such as the ones in that show, that barely leave the marina.
lol fact is yes lr did / have the problem but equally other makes as well suffer, also lr products are more desirable witch means thieves will target more. But i do feel the insurance companies are pusucting the customers as if they had built the car or aided and abetting. Don’t get me Wong as a business owner my self I know insurance companies have margins. But maybe put pressure on the police to act and prevent, and manufacturers. Personally i love my l405 nothing compares and live in the north in a remote rural area with little crime or anything. But have run quotes through the issue time, my normal quote included my renewal last week is apx $1250 yr fully comp. But had fluctuated randomly over the year to $5000 in a matter of days. With no change to any of my details. Which personly is very cheeky of the insurance companies and when you see record profits off certain insurance companies it stinks. Like with the fuel/power/utilites companies record high profits across the bord all on the back of massive hikes in price and at the cost of the consumer. No wonder why every thing is failing..
You mentioned something about the roof changing. Did you mean the GTO model would likely also be getting a solid roof vs the canvas? I haven’t seen that documented on their site, but would make sense for reasons you say. Thanks for the great walkthrough!
Twonk! The reality is nothing like the utter hearsay that you spout. You are listening to the sensationalist press and believing every word. What a crock of poo!💩
The big insurance scam and the latest industry to jump on the bandwagon and rip everyone off! They’ll also be announcing record profits next year🥴 Welcome to rip off Britain.
The Uber driver didn't state HOW his sister's new LR was stolen. If it was trailered away, then no amount of immobilising tech will prevent that from happening. Without that vital info, I'm afraid this video just becomes more of a JLR rant.
Presumably it’s monthly subscription so they have the option to terminate policies on a month by month basis before 12 months elapses, without contractual implications, if thefts are excessive. Not great peace of mind for the policy holder. Presumably also the pot LV has available includes all their other car insurance policies, other than JLR, hence why everyones LV premiums will be going up 🤔
Mate, clearly you are an insurance guy (as is my best mate) but not a boatie, nor well versed on boat “stuff”. Good on you for having a crack. For some tips on how to present a vessel, take a look at BoatLife. Just sayin’.
Clearly you aren't a JLR customer nor have any idea what the latest MY18+ security update does as what you state is false. The main issue was the ease of being able to add a third key to take the cars via the OBD port. Relay thief's are not isolated to JLR products only and isn't the primary cause of JLRs cars being stolen. Yes JLR are guilty of a parts supply issue that in turn has caused the criminals to target there cars to meet overseas demand but that via there new warehouse is steadily being resolved.
I’m an ex JLR customer and that’s for a very good reason, now a Porsche customer who have no issues, parts or relay thefts. I’m well aware of the UWB technology which hasn’t solved anything, cars being stolen all around the place, watch my other video where a guy I’m talking to his sisters brand new car was stolen the night before. JLR is deep trouble UWB update or not. Insurers still require after market immobilisers and trackers and even JLR’s own insurance declines more customers than it takes on, what a joke!
I openly etmit i love lr products found them reliable, and I’ve had more issues with Porsche and other so called reliable makes, maybe that’s my luck. But clearly relay theft is hitting others premium cars as well not just jlr, so why aren’t the insurance companies going out in the fare equal vigger as well!!!!! Or even the police and ports for there lack of willingness to crack down on blatant gaps in basic policing…. But as usual it’s the taxpayer/ consumer who’s got to fit the bill… i feel as a lr owner persecuted by the insurance lobby. Especially living in a remote area of the uk with little crime, we’ve seen massive hikes ups and know downs. Personally i like my rangy due it serves my business like in winter, crossing fealds and then road trips across Europe. To my very few cars come close to its capabilities, i love after a hard week at work getting into my rangy in complete comfort and calmness, but yet being able to tow or lob heavy stuff into the boot. Very few cars come close, key is serving and having the correct engine and knowing how to look after her. And she will last.
So you are the one who trying to con me out of 10000£ to insure my 2017 evoke? Trying to get rich quick. 😅😅😅 I have to 12 years NCB and 10000£ to ensure someone trying it
Interesting perspective. Here's another angle. I do live in the sticks, I'm probably a "vanilla " risk. Yes I got a quote from Land rover ins for my old..2009 Sport. At @ a grand a year and yes I'm on monthly subscription payments. The price is comparable with Aviva. So, until or if it all goes pear shaped I'm happy customer. That would be so different if I owned a 2018 model and I was sitting on 10k + a year deprecation as most are. That's a nightmare!!.
I onlt found out a few days ago whats been happening to land rover prices and insurance. What a schocker.😯🤷🏻♂️ It seems L.R. dont have a clue how to 'really' deal with it. 🤔🤦🏻♂️
You are correct, they don’t. They blame the insurance companies for not wanting to insure their cars however even their own scheme they have setup won’t insure many of their own cars/owners. Ludicrous
Great video, I do have a question though.. I agree JLR security is sub par at best. But if I install a well known, highly effective, (supported by real data) immobiliser on my vehicle why does no insurance company recognise that that alone will basically mean the vehicle is highly unlikely to be stolen. No discounts for doing so and my premium would still stay the same. Far far better and more effective than any steering lock (steering lock bypassed in 45 ish seconds), love your thoughts on this..
Good question, strangely many immobilisers aren’t thatcham approved but even if they are they are the required security to accept the risk not required to qualify to get a discount. Due to the high risk minimum requirements apply, insurers still need to collect appropriate premiums for the risk in hand. Immobilisers don’t stop cars being lifted by a truck, that’s how my 1990s Land Rover defender was stolen
Many thanks for your response. The immobiliser in question does not have a banding category within the Thatcham mode of certification. I find it bizarre that insurance companies prefer any type of tracker over a market leading immobiliser. We all know that trackers do not stop theft. A car stolen with a tracker will 99.9% of the time be found stripped / in a lock up / within some kind of locked compound / shipping container and therefore the insurance company will be paying out. With an immobiliser the car isn't going anywhere, end of, even with the key. Any car could be stolen with a truck and lifted off the street so therefore that comment applies to any car ir any van for that matter. As a result, people are being encouraged to not bother taking extra security precautions as there is no benefit / no point. They'll just claim, get a new car and move on. Likewise insurance companies are part of the problem as they aren't encouraging people to as you would say 'reduce the risk '. Their using theft statistics at least in part justification to increase premiums. If I have installed a market leading immobiliser I should be rewarded for doing so as the risk is far less than someone who dies nothing. Example, do you think an certain type of small 4x4 could be owned successfully without a market leading immobiliser? No chance it'd stolen asap
@@JamesTargett-um4dm you do get rewarded for installing an aftermarket immobiliser, you get the luxury of an insurance quote that others who don’t do not. Benefits aren’t always financial
If you’re parking any car in an underground car park in central London, money is probably not a concern, those owners probably wouldn’t be concerned if their car is stolen. JLR vehicles are so ………poorly built….technologically over complicated…..unreliable…….unsecure and the dealer network appears to be in meltdown with parts shortages etc. Why have people like that Uber Lex driver not considered Lexus??
You can remove a steering wheel lock in seconds, the same as a pedal lock. So they are pointless and a comPlete waste of money. Their are many videos on RU-vid that show them being removed do some research and watch them. The best way to stop your vehicle being stolen is with a ghost or Pandora system or one like it which their are many now Or fitting a dead switch which is hidden, so the vehicle will not start without turning the switch on first. You should also turn keyless entry off, this can be done on all keyless entry vehicles. Normally via the key fob, pressing buttons in a set manor. Most Trackers can be blocked by a small device that goes in the cigarette socket. However this only applies to a small number of trackers. But at the end of the day if the ECU of the vehicle has been woken up then a new fob can be programmed in under 1 minute. Which means the vehicle will act as if it is being used by an original key fob. This is because of keyless start. It has been reported for the last year plus that Land Rover are having a parts issue, but so are some other vehicle manufacturers. You have not stated any facts, that have not already been reported a large number of times. The top two vehicles in the uk stolen last year were the Ford festa, then Ford focus, the third was a vw golf. Even ev’s are now being stolen, again this is down to the cost of parts. Most vehicles are stolen for parts because of a shortage or because of demand overseas. No one seems to want to stop vehicles that are stolen going over seas.
JLR have just sent me the security upgrade letter to bring my late 2018 Land Rover Vogue in for its upgrade I already have the keys with the Range Rover logo on the back ? so not sure what extra upgrade the car will get ? It is in the garage at the moment since December 2023 waiting for parts so I can't bring in to JLR dealership yet to have the upgrade ?
The core issue here is that LR have pushed the price of their cars up, especially this latest generation, but the quality is the same and they are badly secured. This isnt a surprise people are more annoyed than ever. The really scary thing is that you can get a 10yo 80k full fat RR for about 20% of its purchase price. That depreciation is insane!
Land Rover have been caught napping again-and they have no clue about customer service .Perhaps all the senior staff should have their company Range Roves go missing and then they might understand!
With all the logistical issues of shifting a stolen car for money and the technical difficulties in getting one moving I’m surprised to hear steering locks are so valued as a security measure, I thought they were meant to be pretty useless even back in the 90’s protecting a Vauxhall nova. Have they improved? I thought Battery grinders had eliminated the problem (for thieves).
