For you newcomers, I have a LOT of content on EDC Gear, tips, preparedness, camping and outdoor adventuring planned.
Stay tuned!
This channel began as an outdoor channel focused on building out my FJ Cruiser and then using my vehicle to go on camping adventures. Due to *roughly gestures around* everything in the world at the moment, I am having to change my focus. It is hard to make content for repairing a vehicle when parts are either outrageously expensive, or just simply impossible to find.
While I will still continue to bring outdoor content and FJ build/maintenance to RU-vid when I can, my focus will be more on the gear that I use for our outdoor adventures. I will use gear in real world settings and give complete honest feedback.
Stumbled onto your channel! 41 year old homeowner and father of 2 also! I have two little girls and I’m big into EDC as well. I have many boo boo kits and a tool kit like this as well. Love the content sir.
I actually bought a copper natrix to force a patina on, and EVERY screw 1) had more locktite on it than any other knife I’ve opened, 2) it was red locktite. I couldn’t get it open no matter how long I had it on the hair drier. Ended up using a soldering iron on the screws. It broke 4 bits and I kept grinding them, by the end I had one bit, barely functional.
I use 4 different knipex the 5 in ,7 in and 10 in hose pump pliers and the 8in combination needle nose / wire cutters in my professional life they are great tools I carry the 5 in on my belt I can 90% of my work with them
Nice setup I prefer the icon mini flex ratchet to the Leatherman 30$ you get an entire kit also you should add a t20 torx it’s a very common size on appliances and cars
LOL would you have links you could supply to the items? That's a big one for me, I love these cause I like to look into the gear that people share about that
I have the 711L mini ratchet (driver version) and the 2-in-1 extension. I’m just waiting for my Steinwhale double ended stubby bits to arrive next week.
The knipex continue to be a disappointment. I was grabbing a small piece of brass to remove a pin and it kept slipping. Every time they fail. I always have to go grab a different tool. They suck!
@@NWEDC I was recently removing a shower head and I just used a washcloth with the knipex to protect my hand and it worked. Maybe, I should carry one in my back pocket 🤣
I have subscribed 👍. I watch too many of these edc channels, but yours is by far the most enjoyable (granted I am basing this opinion off of one video). However, what got me hooked was how practical and useful your tool picks are. They are not WW3, doomsday scenario choices, they are useful well considered items.
Its not called sutures or roach clips, it's a hemostat. Hemostat! Hemostat! He-mow-stat... hemostat... write it down... say it three times, read it back... hemostat... God I'm so anal...
Did you ever get any roof rack leaks? I just picked up an 07 and the roof was leaking so I did the roof rack delete because there’s just too many sandwiched pieces that can leak in my opinion. This one looks a lot more straight forward and I like that it’s low profile too so I think it’ll be my next purchase.
Nope! No roof rack leaks. I have found my windshield seal is slowly leaking at the bottom passenger side, and it’s leaking into… and filling, my blower. If I had to do it over, I’d drop the extra money for the aluminum version. The additional roof weight is noticeable when swaying back and fourth on the trails. Mine has also been dinged up on the mountain and those dings rusted before I could get home to treat them.
04:00 this is where the video starts with the topic you find in the title. didn't see anything in the title about his kids. so blah blah blah for 4 long never-ending minutes. felt like a passenger in the movie airplane. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CSALQn0u9z4.htmlsi=_Vxc_vKwNt7_vH00 I thought I was going to die!
Good stuff Sean! You’re right on about the carbon; that is Fat Carbon, Gold Dark Matter. Happy you like your Standard so much! The LTDs really came out amazing, and I’m glad you were able to snag one! 👊
I picked up a SOG button lock and I was able to produce a failure by pressing the blade against my bed frame. Extremely disappointing, this blade is relegated to paracord and box duty. Will never buy a button lock again.
The scales are the raw aluminum with no cerakote applied, so I couldn’t give you an educated answer on OG’s application, but with my other knives, I’ve noticed they all end up showing wear with use over time, regardless of frequency or how careful I am with them.
so can i use that clear coat to protect the copper from being patinad at all? i have an engraving on a copper leek kershaw that i want to keep the copper bright on
I'm not sure what it is with the construction, but there are certain kinds of button locks and how they engage that make them more prone to failure vs. other kinds. It's definitely a shame because the ease of use and fidgetability make them very attractive. I've had some that are rock solid and others that fail with the slightest bump but I wish I knew what type of mechanism tends to fail so I could avoid those instead of having to be suspicious of all button locks in general.
Yeah I can’t seem to see why it’s happening, I mean the construction is nearly identical. There’s no “oh, this one obviously has play in the lock” or “oh the stop is too small”, they all look fine, yet one I can fail by simply pressing on the back of the blade, and one i’d have to use a hammer on to fail. So bizarre. I’d love to get my hands on a fully functioning thunderbird and compare the guts.
I love large folders so this appealed to me right away. I'm also looking for my first sheepsfoot blade for the collection so there's a lot going on for me, adding the robust liners and micarta being one of my favourite handle material. Plus there's something extra when a large knife like this has the fidget factor, I'll be keeping my eye on it for when it becomes available in Canada.
Same! There’s something about a pocket knife teetering on the edge between that and a pocket cleaver that really appeals to me. The Kizer Towser K is another awesome modified sheepsfoot knife I’d recommend checking out. It’s one of my all time faves.
