Star Wars also came along at a bad time in US history on the heels of the turbulent 60's and the Vietnam War wrapping up in the early 70's. So Star Wars helped bring back some fun and hope to a depressed country and economy.

If only Disney understood this and didn't keep pumping out Star Wars Drek designed to enlighten us all and crudely pound in THE MESSAGE about how racist, oppressive, transphobic and homophobic we are as it demands we accept their version of reality. They'd rather pump out crappy, overbearing shows and movies no one likes than do something with no moral or message.
I think that's why a lot of people NOPE'd out of the Acolyte because that buffoon of a director rambled on about how "as a queer person yada yada yada pseudo romance between Anna and Elsa yada yada yada etc" and then the gaslighting calling it the gayest Star Wars yet just flame baited long time fans. Now they are acting like pouty little bitches because the fan base turned on them when they turned on the lore of George Lucas's vision was just a slap in the face. Didn't help that Disney did a hamfisted job on producing much of the Star Wars content they have already farted out. I think Star Wars's era is long past. We are so far removed from what it was like in the world of the 70's and 80's and you can't get that back with today's ideology. So a lot of fans have simply given up and moved on.
1:45-3:25 It's funny how a news reporter from 1977 could teach the modern generation an important lesson better than most "creative" minds today can: if even the most stereotypical Texas people that only know Texas stuff will be able to find something enjoyable and relatable in a fun space adventure movie like Star Wars, then you don't need to pander to rare, obscure demographics that probably don't even exist. Just make a movie that's good and everyone will be able to enjoy it. You know, like what Disney _used_ to do.
That's what pretty much what everyone who worked on the movie thought it would be. To almost everyone involved, from the cast and crew members to the studio executives at 20th Century Fox, it was just "that science movie". But they were definitely eating those words when Star Wars was actually released in theaters and became the number one highest grossing film in the world (at least until E.T. beat its record five years later).
