At the National Writers Series, we connect our community with nationally renowned authors to encourage appreciation of the written word, and to help spark student writing excellence.
Proceeds from our events help fund four annual scholarships for college-bound students presented in partnership with the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.
This is my grandpa, he passed last year, I am so happy to hear his voice and to see his face, and I miss him very much, I am so glad that I just happened upon this video, I remember when he was writing this book a few years ago. He has always told me about the Kent State Shooting’s and the aftermath, but boy did he have a way with words! I miss you Poppie, thank you for teaching me to always search for the truth because it always matters!
.We all have a blind spot, right? That bit of incorrect information from childhood that mysteriously never gets updated, the person who makes it to thirty-five believing that unicorns had been hunted into extinction.” “Wait, unicorns weren’t hunted . . .” He smiled at me, tipping his head to one side as if to say I was adorable, as in, I was to be adored. Hi, How would you interpret the play-word in " was adorable, as in, I was to be adored."please?
Prep work prepared is a big thing I don't always put enough time into and you are sooo right... When you have your prep work under control, it makes the actual preparation not only easier but more joyful to share time with your company or to just eat a mal ina more timely manner.
I could never understand cult mentality or the people who joined them.Maybe it is because I am on the Autism Spectrum and I seem to have been born with a built in BS detector. My late Mom also raised me to be independent and to question everything.I met my husband in college. We will be married fifty years this coming January. We do not agree on everything and that is okay.I watched both documentaries on Twin Flames and if my husband ever talked down to me the way Jeff does to his wife,he would be the one who would sexual reassignment surgery.Jeff is a malignant narcissist and a pretentious douchebag.Every time he opened his mouth,I felt like hitting him in the face with a bat.Kudos to all who continue to expose these cults for what they really are.A way to take advantage of lonely people looking for a lifelong companion.Oh,and of corse swindling them out of all their money.Keep fighting and exposing these phonies for what they truly are.Con artists.Thank you.
She spoilt this talk by effectively undermining those of us who did not want to take an unlicensed, untested vaccine, and for VERY good reasons. So many people at least in the UK regret taking it. Just another way of dividing people. It goes both ways. I would never not want to see a vaccinated person but there were plenty of vaccinated people who refused to see unvaxxed. Such a shame as it was a great talk but lost me after that.
I truly wish she had more exposure on mainstream media. She imparts so much vital information on our country's history that never is covered in schools. It's sad our population is so misled on our country's history by those wishing to make it over for their own interests.
So so blessed to have passionate people who keep fighting the fight. Hoping all your exceptional work reaps the rewards. As a mother who's child is still in this horrendous cult, I cannot wait for justice to come. 😢
Just finished your "Lessons in Chemistry". Loved it! My guffaws burst through out loud. When is your next novel coming out? I majored in chemistry and biochemistry in the early 1960's and had summer lab jobs at Johns Hopkins Med School, NY State Dept of Labor, and Baltimore City Hospital. I discovered that studying one molecule for a lifetime for a breakthrough was not what I wanted to do. 😹
Barbara McQuade will go down in history as a destroyer of civil liberties and be an embarrassment to all mankind for her attack on free speech and desperation to destroy and silence anyone not agreeing with her elitist views. Pray for her blackened soul.
"my grandmother sends her regards and apologises" seems a bit autobiographical? In fact I just recommended this book after a discussion we had on our weekly walk today. It seemed fitting.
Well done both of you!!!! To my dear friend Janja it is good to see the fire forever burning and your passion to help those coming out of cults goes on. You are amazing and so many of us will forever be in your debt.
As someone from northern Michigan, I can always tell when someone sets a book there but isn't from there - not with this book! Ann did a wonderful job writing about a very special place.
I only knew of this book because I grew up in East Detroit. I heard about it from another alumni. So, for me, even if Lindsey had written it, I would have read it. It was wonderful.
I just finished reading ‘Tom Lake’ and adored it. As an Australian, I had no familiarity with Thornton Wilder’s ‘Our Town’, so I watched on RU-vid, the 2003 Broadway performance of the play starring Paul Newman as the Stage Manager. It brought the novel and the play together in a very beautiful and meaningful way. Thank you for this fabulous interview.
It seems like divine intervention that Paul ran across the file of GSK and with his background and tenacity was the perfect person to crack this case. So grateful for him.
A Most enjoyable interview listening to an author I admire. He knows himself so well. Love his simple, emotive writing style. His humanity is admirable. The Only bothersome issue was the interviewer who seemed impatient, and his wanting to interrupt the author. He didn't seem to connect or listen at times but had his own agenda which interfered with the flow. He seemed restless and impatient. The most enjoyable part was just listening to the author "get off track" and just talk; so just allow him to talk.
I found this interview very entertaining and informative. Thank you for the great questions Leslie. Anthony, you were a real sport. I love the child like enthusiasm shared by you both. Thank you.
