Nice, informative video. I went tubeless with Stans back in 2017 and have been very pleased with the results. Not having a tube has probably saved me many flats without even knowing it! I recently purchased a hunting ebike (Rambo). It came with All Terrain Maxxis Minion FBR 26"x 4.0" Tires (with tubes). The Maxxis description states it has anti-puncture technology. I've been considering a couple of options for added protection. 1- An inner tube sealant such as a Muc-off or 2- Adding Tannus Armour to the tires. If i went the TA route, could one even add the Muc-off? Or is that overkill? Thanks.
@boydcombsakaGster
@boydcombsakaGster 9 дней назад
Thank you for watching my video and for commenting. It has been over 10 years since I used inner tube sealant in an inner tube, so I am probably not up to date with the latest sealant, but, when I did use sealant in an inner tube, it worked OK for about 6 months, but, after that time, the sealant dried in the inner tube as a clump and rendered the inner tube worthless. Regarding the Maxxis anti-puncture tech, I assume they are referring to their EXO (+) or DD (or maybe silkworm which I believe is in all their tires). I have experience with those, but I have never relied on that exclusively to avoid punctures--I have almost always used Stans (with or without Cushcore) or the Tannus Armour. In my experience if you use the Tannus Armour and pump the tire up to at least 25 psi (or more), you have plenty of puncture protection. I would love to hear what you decide to do and what experience you have with whatever you choose. Thanks again.

@boydcombsakaGster Thank you for the reply. I believe I'm going to try the Muc-off first. I've read a lot of good things about the product. If it fails me, I can always go to Tannus Armour. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again

Thanks for review. Looks like the threaded button on the derailer hangar could be rethreaded or made to accept a conventional axle. Can you tune your Bafang at all? I run an Eggrider on a BBSHD and love the tunability.
@boydcombsakaGster
@boydcombsakaGster Месяц назад
Thank you for watching my video and for commenting. Regarding the axle, subsequent making the video, I found and purchased an axle with the existing thread pitch that is removed using a 6mm hex key. This new axle works great and completely eliminated the axle issue. As to tuning, I have not tuned the bike motor at all. When I purchased the bike, I had it set up for a 29er rear wheel, and for class 1 status (in U.S. that means no throttle and limited to 20 mph). I did buy the Bafang BESST tool, but I have not used it to change anything on the motor. Glad to hear about your BBSHD. I see a lot about them on the internet, and, with all the press, they must be really great motors. Cheers.

I almost bought a dengfu but i got scared with propertary stuff like that detailier hanger, thats why i stuck with a mainstream brand that only uses normal standards. I love that the Giant has an 80% charge button--great idea. Also, I like the Giant Reign--cool bike.

I have another issue, the battery is too big/heavy. Let's be honest how often do you do a 40+ mile ride, I haven't done it once in 4 years. I think a 30 mile max range is fine and even that's a slight overkill. My thinking here is the lighter it is from the factory, the less wear on components so less fails and warranty claims, it's win win and we consumers get a more playful bike.
@boydcombsakaGster
@boydcombsakaGster Месяц назад
Thank you for watching my video and for commenting. The battery is big and it is heavy. I have not been able to fully confirm this, but I believe that the Bafang m510 motor uses a bit more power (all other things considered) than a Shimano, Bosch, or Bose motor and hence the bigger battery. Some of my friends have 700+ bikes, and they seem to have more range than I have on the 840.

Thank you for watching and for commenting. There are 2 kinds of Tannus--1)Armour Tire Liners and 2) Tubeless. My video was mainly discussing the Armour Tire Liners, and, to my knowledge, the Armour Tire Liners cannot be run tubeless. However, the Tannus Tubeless (which is very similar to Cushcore) can be run tubeless. I hope that this answers your question. If not, please let me know. Cheers.

@boydcombsakaGster 2 месяца назад
Thank you for watching my video and for the comment. I do get some compression in my tannus armor inserts; however, I have not been able to detect any reduction in the protection provided by the insert. Tannus says: "Tannus Armour inserts can compress over time. Compression will vary depending on the rider's weight, psi, and the riding environment." I weigh about 165; run my mtb tires between 20 and 25 psi, run my road tires between 75 and 90 psi; mainly ride the bikes in the Atlanta area and store them inside at controlled temp. I hope that that helps. Thanks again.

10 speed chains work perfectly & better on 1 x 9 systems. The 9 speed chain does not bend well in the extreme cross chain gears. KMC X10( you can even use 11s chain) is more flexible and actually designed for 1 x systems. You will have less noise and skipping.

Can shimano motors serviced? Those are sealed right?
@boydcombsakaGster
@boydcombsakaGster 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for watching my video and for commenting. I have "opened up" an old Shimano e8000 motor, and it was definitely sealed. After removing the bolts, I had to "cut" the seam with a razor blade to open up the motor. So, yes, I believe the motors are sealed. The question of whether the Shimano motors can be serviced is a bit more tricky to answer. From reading message boards, facebook groups, etc., there are some people (or companies) scattered around the world who do some service on the Shimano motors; however, in the U.S. I only know of one company that will work on the Shimano motors, but they do not normally warranty the work. Also, I am not aware of any Shimano sponsored/supported/endorsed service centers for the motors, nor am I aware of any way to get parts for Shimano motors other than from cannibalizing old motors (except for some bearings where there is a company that had 3rd party bearing made for the motors independent of Shimano). I hope that answers your questions. Cheers.

Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment. This is a good question that I should have addressed in the video. I originally had a SRLY steel chainring for which I paid about $25. Despite costing 4 times as much, it only lasted about twice as long. In my opinion, the Deckas rings are just more cost effective. I hope that answers your question. Cheers.
