What an AMAZING essay-I'm speechless, haha. ♡ I admire JS, and seeing an essay about him and how misinterpreted both the person and the "method acting" are is absolutely wonderful! Congrats on the work, Ryan. Xx
Let us be honest, he is simply too smart for Hollywood. That is why people consider him pretentious or pompous. They simply don’t understand what he is talking about. They have no idea what “dramaturgically”means, they’ve never heard of Glenn Gould, they have no idea who Chekov is, they’ve never read any of the books he mentioned in his interviews. He is not pretentious, he is simply intelligent and dedicated. Which is a shock in the modern world.
I understand what Brian Cox said about him fearing that Jeremy will burn himself out, but if he cares so much about his craft, what is wrong with that. What is actually wrong with that? Like if a footballer loves fucking playing football and talking about it, we never criticize him and call him pretentious. I think a lot of it also stems from the fact that people think anybody can act, that misconception, that it is just the occasional expression, dialogue delivery and voice modulation. So if you actually believe that, then anybody who takes it seriously and loves the process of it seems pretentious.
bro continue your work your videos are very great and your presentation of ideas is incredible i hope u continue and talk about de niro and day lewis and Jack Nicholson and all the legends and all the talented directors
When you come from a working class background and have to claw your way to find success, you have to be intense and work harder and more wisely than all the nepo kids to get to Yale and achieve so much. I think he's bloody brilliant, he's extremely intelligent and has a deep understanding of the human psyche, he deserves every success. He sounds v thoughtful and well grounded in interviews and appears to be a great husband and dad. I think Jeremy Strong is an absolute acting genius. The very best on screens at the moment. I can't wait to see more of his work.
This man rules and he clearly keeps learning through all forms of art to inspire him. This man is a success and should be celebrated for his work and his work ethic
I didn’t like Kendall but every time when he’s in distress the emotions pulls me in and I cry every time he cries that’s how powerful Jeremy’s acting is
brilliant analysis and editing, and i love how much research was put into this! i, like you, admire how hard he works and clearly the results are always phenomenal. i find so much of the backlash to him strange as, to me, he just comes across as an incredibly intellectual guy who's had to fight the odds to achieve what he's achieved and wants to talk about that with passion. it's also interesting to note that in all the recent videos of him at the stage door of "an enemy of the people", he comes across as such a genuine, kind, and soft-spoken man - not pretentious at all! again, bravo on this video!! "misunderstood genius" feels exactly right to describe him
Loved this and i totally agree. People don't know how to react to sincerity in a post-irony world so it rubs them the wrong way. He seems deeply earnest in a way very very few actors are.
@ryanramgobin John Travolta could be an interesting one. Another one I would love to see is Ben Stiller or even Nathan Fielder, He's had such an interesting career, and his style is so unique that you can barely separate what's real and what's fake.
I don't think he's pretentious, but I think if you're upsetting your fellow actors on set and your older more experienced peers tells you that you can't keep this up, you should listen.
Amazing video man! The editing and storytelling is on a level of a high budget documentary! Reminds me a lot of Dodford's style which I also really like. Keep up the good work! 👏
I can understand hoe his metjod may be hard to work with as another actor. He oribsbog foes go overboard. However i can't help but respect hos dedication and lovd for the craft hes fought tooth and nail for. Its admirable and it bears out in his work.
Being so genuine rn when I say his GQ essential items video changed me. I was on the derision train with everyone else..but was completely moved by what is just pure sincerity and passion. He's been a real inspiration for me since. "the work of every true artist is the salvation of every other." and in this moment his is mine.
'Dramaturgically' is a word that's used commonly in german. English speakers not picking it up makes me feel superior to all of those unilingual peasants, and if you found the word weird, you're a cretin. I don't take your opinion seriously, like a clown who jokes on things they doesn't even understand, let alone have the intellectual sensitivity to make a joke about that matter. You don't understand that word, just stay in bed in the morning, the world won't even notice you're missing. Stupidity is an insult. Lack of education is failure as a human being.
Nicolas Cage is my all time favourite Actor in history (Right up there with Daniel Day Lewis, Werner Krauss and Vincent Price). Every film he was in like Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds, Adaptation, Pig, Dream Scenario, Face/Off, Prisoners of the Ghostland, Colour out of Space, Leaving Las Vegas, Willy's Wonderland, Moonstruck, Ghost Rider 1 & 2, The Rock, 8MM, Bringing Out the Dead, Bad Lieutenant, Vampire's Kiss, Sympathy for The Devil, Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Renfield, Joe, National Treasure, Matchstick Men and Especially Mandy have always put a smile on my face. And even if the movie is good or bad, he always be the heart of the film. Whenever I'm in a bad mood or just feeling a bit depressed, Nick's would always cheer me up, he's very special in my life and he will always be... *A National Treasure*
The trouble with method acting is when the actor is so committed that they become an asshole to others, i.e. Jim Carrey in Man in the Moon. But by all indications, people who have worked with Strong are more baffled by his technique than anything else. The most damage Strong does is by far to himself, and, yes, it does start to look a little pathological, but unlike most method actors, I would argue that he doesn't do it in order to prove himself- he just doesn't know any other way to act. He's the antithesis to Culkin's "Whatever, nothing lowkey matters" attitude; he's 100% genuine, which is something you don't see as much these days in a field full of jaded artists (who are albeit often justified in their cynicism).
Coming here from the Nic Cage subreddit, and what a joy this video was!! Thank you so much for exploring his ever changing craft and tremendous personality in such gentle, respectful and compelling way. He is one of a kind.
@@ryanramgobin It's a great video. You have a knack for editing. I liked the way you put the movies on different TVs, very elegant and efficient way of getting across the idea of his omnipresence. I'm not a huge fan of AI art. It's always a little off and it's overused on RU-vid. I'm not sure of the solution to this, but I'd prefer almost anything else as b roll in those parts. Either way, I appreciate your work and hope this channel takes off - you deserve it.
Love it. Hes gone down a whole and now hes paid off his debt will probably start a decade of his best work. Going down as an all time great. Great personal story. Cant wait to work with him
