Excellent, do you have a known working way of making the tooltip display MediaInfo information quicker in the Windows File Explorer? I have tested RegEdit, reducing Mouse HoverTime but it has no affect on this with my machine. I know that windows file explorer displays the codec in a column with a long list of numbers corresponding to codec, but I wonder why they don't just give H.264 for example, instead. It seems like Microsoft could easily build this functionality into the file explorer and be activatable through a selection of columns to display for users that want to see this information. There doesn't seem to be anything in PowerToys for this functionality either.

that is for VOD solution how about live transcode. I don't trust the stable of ffmpeg if we use this for live transcode. That can't work well during 24/7. Do you have any solution for live transcode.
This breaks my brain. Were you encoding on a Mac or PC? The open source ProRes unofficial decoder on Windows is inferior quality compared to the native decoder on Mac, I'm wondering if that's playing a role.

Nevermind. Only took about 100 videos to find out you need to download windows FFMpeg and put the files in the bin folder into the root of FFMetics. Now it works. Why does no one cover that part?
I cannot figure out how to get FFMpeg to connect. Like I have the files in a folder but FFMetics just never says a version like yours does at the bottom.
H264 is not too fast when use your own parameters. And if you want good quality and low disk space, you must use your own parameters. And VP9 slow than x265. AV1 slowest, but SV-AV1 fast, but limited encoder.
This is a cool video that helps, but I have two/three questions, because I don't entirely understand the tool. 1. Are the encoded files okay to be any random encoded file of a specific type/format, or should they be encoded variations of the original/reference? 2. And, is the VMAF scores purely a comparison of the encoded files to the original, or do represent a measurement relative to some ideal standard? For example, if the reference is garbage, and the encode file is good, will the VMAF be high?
1. These metrics are all full reference, which means that you compare the encoded file to the original. So, they all must be encoded variations of the original. 2. Purely a comparison of the encoded file to the original. VMAF will be high if the original is garbage and the transcoded file is very close to the same quality, even if the video looks terrible (assuming that the original looked terrible). hope this helps. Now to play with the pmode and pme params. I like to turn off frame threads and wpp as somewhere is explained they result in slightly worse bit efficiency. Then on pmode and pme. pmode forces parallelization of some mode of something going block by block, also by alleged necessity turning off all relevant early skipping. PME parallelizes motion estimation, allegedly off by default as it can result in massive overhead and pmode fills threads well enough. But that depends on your core count and video resolution your encoding. I presume if you have a lot of cores, use them and see what happens.
should I crop video with black bars or not (bluray movie, aspect ratio 16:9, after crop 2.35:1), because I encoded a movie without cropping (1920x1080) and one cropped (1920x816) and SUPRIZE the no crop version is smaller in size then the cropped one. I use the same settings for encoding. Can anyone help me understand why is it?????? I thought the cropped one which has fewer pixels should be smaller
Hi sir! Please help me! Using ffmpeg text mode or this tool a have same low score in vmaf only 5 points when compare source mp4 with h264 and h265. i cant understand how this happens. Using 6mbps in hevc to 1080p this score is too low.
If frame sizes of ref and distorted files are different, the distorted will be resized to ref file frame size before calculating metrics. To do this the specified scaling method will be used. If frame sizes are the same -- the scaling is not used at all.
If you mean raw YUV stream -- no, you cannot do this using FFMetrics. FFMetrics need more information (frame size, frame rate) to supply correct arguments to ffmpeg.
One thing I didn't understand was, after encoding with CRF 25 for the top rung, what should be the encoding method for the other rungs? I know the bitrate should be between 1.5%- 2% but how about the encoding parameters? do we higher CRF gradually? or keep CRF at 25 and just change maxrate?
Interesting that the VVC patent list didn't include Google. LOL - what if Google starts charging for their VVC video patents? It'd be like 95% of the VVC patent revenue.
