I believe this was due to zoning and by law restriction. local by laws may restrict the amount of driveway entries onto the main road for safety reasons, especially when the lot is severed/ subdivided on a high traffic road.

Lovely, bright rooms but what is with those front steps? An insurance case for slip and fall waiting to happen! Being on of the many people with mobility issues I need a hand rail which is rarely seen on new houses. They are not only important for safety you can use them to hang planters and decorations.
