What about gear oil for an old pickup that lives in the northwest where it snows and can get down to -20F but not all the time and also gets upward of 95F in the summer. Do you have any recommendations for a good oil that will provide protection for the old gears and will last in these types of conditions
Andrew truly IS great. I have an NP261 HD transfer case. I just want to add the 84 pin 42 link chain. Would I have to get different chain sprockets as well? Or do the original sprockets work with the beefier new chain?
You’ll need to upgrade the sprockets to the XHD sprockets in order to run the 1.5” 42 link chain. We have both in stock. Give Andrew a call and he’ll set you up.
@@rigidaxle I'll search. Maybe some DIY videos or documents created by Rigid Axles would help sell parts? If you know of any good ones off hand...thanks. I'll be calling when I open up the case.
They are the same rear. Just a difference in bearings. When you go to our site and shop by differential, you will see the year break downs for the 7.5/7.6”.
I just got a used 2005 highlander V6 3.3L AWD with 125k miles. The transfer case and rear diff have never been changed. Owners manual says 90 for above 0F and 80W or 80W-90 for below 0F. Here in Colorado it is possible to go below O in the winter so I'm trying to decide between the 80W, 80W-90 OR can I actually use a synthetic 75W-90? I'm not sure on the 75W-90 because that option is not mentioned in the owners manual and I don't know if synthetic will be OK after 125k miles on conventional.
75W-90 is what we would recommend for your cold climate. It will be thin enough to protect you in cold winter conditions. Synthetic will also be fine to switch over to.
I run a Detriot Trutrac in a mustang. It's a street car that I drag race 6 to 7 trips to the track a year. Putting GL-5 conventional 80w-90 in it, but wonder I should go 140wt?
You probably aren’t building enough heat in the rear to warrant the 140 weight oil. It wouldn’t hurt anything, but it also won’t help. 80w-90 should be plenty of protection for how you are using your mustang.
I have Revolution 4.88 gears and currently has Chevron 85w140 .... probably going to go with Valvoline or Revolution's 85w140 when I change the gear oil .... good info you guys!
@500hardcore The ratio don't matter. It the fact of using 75w over 80w or 85w that helps in cold. I'd recommend AMSOIL Severe Gear. Are you in canada or the states?
For cold weather, you’ll just want to use something like a 75w oil instead of an 85w. 75w is thinner in cold temps allowing it to flow easier and protect your diff. 75w-90 or 75w-140 would work.
Only use. 80w90 if the vehicle manufacturer recommends it, if it says use 75w90 or 75w85 the use the 75w90 that’s what it’s called for, it’s no different then running the correct oil on your engine.
Thanks for watching! Make sure to hit the thumbs up button and subscribe so we can continue to make this type of content! Overview Break-In Period: Run the cheapest GL-5/GL-6 gear oil you can find! After a good 500 mile Break-In: Drain and run a high quality, long lasting, GL-5/GL-6 gear oil. 80W-90: Run in most daily driver passenger vehicles. 85W-140: Run in anything that is going to generate extreme heat in the differential (race cars, heavy towing, oversized tires, etc.).
Our gear sets and bearing kits use the same manufacturers as those brands. Quality is the same high quality you would get from any other high end brand.
If / when I was asked that: yall got live scallop, 7 orders of beluga caviar, 6 Remy Martin XO. 12 fried cheesecake bites at 7.99 ea. And 4 yellowtail sashimi togo
