OpenMW is a free and open-source game engine capable of running Bethesda's popular RPG "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind". It is developed and maintained by the OpenMW team. Running natively on Windows, Linux, and macOS, OpenMW is already a near-perfect, fully functional replacement of the original engine and provides a stable gaming experience with a lot of QoL improvements for the player. It also supports most Morrowind mods except for those relying on the Morrowind Script Extender (MWSE). The TES3MP fork of our project enables native multiplayer support. We also ship our engine with its own editor, OpenMW-CS, which will eventually allow developers to not only create mods but their own games in the OpenMW engine.
**Please note that one must own the original game files to play Morrowind in OpenMW!**
I have tried to use this, but it never installs correctly, or tells me some .dll file is missing. I finally gave up, as I don't have a degree in computer science. I'm a 69 year old gamer, that if I can't click and play, I'm at a total loss. Openmw has had me pulling my hair out, and I don't have much to start with. I have tried to read the help files, but they might as well be written in Greek for all the sense that they make to me.
honestly i spent days trying to configure this thing and get it to use mods properly and then yo ugot the performance which is horrible goes under 20 fps, wtf? Meanwhile the good old outdated morowind overhaul mod never goes under 58 and is 60 99% of the time. Whats the point of all of that if its gonna run like crap and its a btch to set up?
I really like the controller support and the way you can control the character independant of the camera with options in OpenMW, it would be cool if you added more stuff like that.
OpenMW. (Sorry for the mistakes, because I translated using Yandex translator) Damn it, I'm amazed at this job... after about 12 years, OpenMW continues to be updated. Although I am a little against them (for example, the "lady" sign gives +25, as if it is a spell with a permanent effect, and not just +25). Nevertheless, I am satisfied with your work... One day, in the summer of 2021, I wanted to go through Morrowind. At that time I was 13 years old, I was not looking for fashion for graphics, but I wanted to get an original experience. Without thinking twice, I switched to OpenMW (then - 0.46). It was on OpenMW that I explored most of the lands of Morrowind, and it was good. But, as I said, I was looking for an original experience, and at the beginning of the game I chose the "lady" sign, which played a role: by about level 50, I discovered that this sign worked differently in the original, and... deleted OpenMW. Then I was 13 years old, now I'm 15, and I'm still not looking for mods for graphics, but I want an original experience. And it's hard to achieve this when there are patches (Code Patch, GFM is a patch for the Russian version that corrects errors in quests, grammar, etc.). And it turns out that I start the game anew with patches, then I understand what I want without them - I start anew without them, I stumble upon a bug - I start anew with patches... and it's been like this at least 4 times already. In general, I can only wish you, brothers, good luck in developing with this OpenMW, because, despite the shortcomings, it is really good. If I wasn't such a strange person looking for an original experience, even without fixing the code, I would definitely pass the game with OpenMW.
The worst part of OpenMW - it has realy bad scripting, worse then in original Morrowind. I want to make Cloud Container and it was possible to do in original Morrowind begin RemoteContainer short OnPCEquip if ( OnPCEquip == 1 ) set OnPCEquip to 0 "dh_remote_chest_01"->Activate, player endif end but in OpenMW this does not work. The same problam is with retexturing menu themes - they work in Morrowind, but not in OpenMW
this stuff is cool and all but openmw is already a better base than morrowind as is why not start working on the script extender functionality to make it more accessible to people
Random question but I can't find anything on it that isn't from years ago. Is there a uncapper you can use in OpenMW? Or a way to pull just the uncapper out of the Code Patch? From my poking around it doesn't seem to be the case but I did find one post that suggested uncapping was a long termish plan for OpenMW but this post was at least five years old.
Why can't I access your site? I'm getting the error message "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress."
I got had by this the first time and laughed, but with the increasingly longer intervals between releases I'm getting some DaggerXL flashbacks, I really hope this project doesn't end up like that one (And it would be highly ironic in retrospect if it did because it seems there were some digs at that fiasco in this video).
You shouldn't judge OpenMW on its release activity. Have a look at our GitLab repo to see how active the project really is. Extended Lua support beyond what will be possible in the upcoming 0.48.0 version is already in development, the VR branch is going to be merged soon-ish, and I don't think it will take that long to finally merge TES3MP back into master. Besides, you cannot take OpenMW "down" or make the code closed source. That would not only be illegal but also nearly impossible due to Git distribution. (And isn't even up for debate anyway.)
@@MrOpenMW thank you for the reply, I do understand the major issue being a possible copyright lawsuit, and even if you guys win your case you would be out financially. Having said that is the openmw going to be locked to top down view or can the view be set in openmw cs
@@anthonyrye4755 He means that this video was an april fools joke mate they haven't actually switched to turning MW into an iso rpg. Though I can't blame you for falling for it since this is their latest video in the channel and it's been an entire year since their last public release.
You can always grab Tamriel Rebuilt and start exploring the whole province of Morrowind. It's still unfinished, but the available contents look promising. Haven't played it myself yet, though.
Thank you guys for doing this. Seriously, this is a ton of effort put into what is now a 2 decade old game, for free to download. This was my first elder scrolls game, and in many ways, I still prefer it over skyrim, even if I do like skyrim (when it's modded, at least)
