This channel provides information for students interested in attending one of the five federal service academies. We cover the congressional nomination process, hints about applying, and specific information to help with the overall process.
Although the reason cadets go through Prep schools is overwhelmingly academic, you can also not be quite ready physically, or admissions do not see enough in your leadership development yet. Slots for prep schools are offered to cadets who are just lacking in one or two aspects of the ‘whole person’ profile. It does not always mean academic
We explicitly told our cadet (and his sibling who is interested), if you really want to go, then go. If you're doing it to fulfill somebody else's expectation then DON'T GO. You gave all the reasons.
That’s the way I see it. My daughter had two nominations for the Naval Academy class of 2028, Congressional and Senator. She maxed out the CFA at summer seminar, has numerous leadership positions including varsity team captain, and elected student council member, 3.91 gpa, 31 ACT, no medical issues on DODMERB. We checked every box on class portrait down to parents are military, and got a rejection notice two weeks before the deadline. Nominations are not the most difficult part it’s the appointment that’s hard. More nominations just decreases the odds of an appointment. Then we find out they took 42% reapplications, extremely frustrating.😢
After seeing my daughter being successful at USAFA Prep, I am fully supportive of that institution and the personnel. It was the best decision of her life.
Good day sir, I just stumble upon your post since I am helping my son to be accepted at USNA next year. He just finished the 2024 summer seminar last June and he is convinced to pursue this dream. I consider him an average student and consistently getting awards from elementary to middle school , his first 2 years in high school I still consider good but his junior year in not very good since he joined the varsity wrestling team, his focus shifted to wrestling which paid of since be is the inland empire 116 lbs. champion and will be the team captain this coming senior year but he have a D in AP pre calculus, he still has an above 4.0 GPA and is in JROTC with a rank of 1st. lt. and commander of drill team and about to become a squadron commander his senior year . he is also the lead altar server in our church that trains incoming altar servers. can I ask your help , any advice and motivation to have a better chance of being accepted is very much appreciated. Thank you very much.
Sons a 2023 NAPS Grad who is at Protramid in San Diego right now and will be a 3C in Aug. NAPS is an Academy GOLDEN TICKET that gives you all the tools you need to succeed at the Academy. Plebe Summer and Plebe year is easier for Napsters and their parents. We're old salts by then. ALWAYS TAKE NAPS, MAPS, or AFAPS.
This is a very helpful video. I have been considering USAFA and USMMA. This gives me a much better idea of how I should allocate my requests. I'm visiting Kings Point in August and can't wait.
This helps a lot thank you so much! I am doing USAFA for congressman and Cardin for USAFA and Van Hollen Westpoint, I see your on vacation and still helping thanks.
Hey I am in the Congressional Nomination process and am applying for nominations from both senators and my local congressman, if my top choice is USAFA and second is USMA, how should I allocate which academies to chose for nominations? (Maryland resident)
Very good advice. Please do not injure yourself before taking the oath of office. One of my buddies fractured his skull one week before reporting and another cut the tip of his finger off in a car door. The first could never enter the Academy, even in a later class. He could only get a Commission years later via OCS. He is now Retired Army. The second recovered a four year ROTC scholarship with intervention of his Member of Congress going to bat for him after successful surgery at his expense. DO NOT INJURE YOURSELF! You have your life’s dream at your fingertips. Don’t blow it.
I would also recommend reading books about it. i recently read The Art of Clear Thinking which is a book about leadership and decision making by an f16/f35 pilot who graduated from usafa and has been in combat in the middle east. Hes got lots of good stories to learn from both from himself and others in aviation, i would absolutely recommend reading it and checking out the authors channel.
I'm a mechanical watch guy and my son is aspiring to a service academy. So, find this very interesting. Need something sturdy. Save the Rolex and Omega for graduation gift.
If im 20 and have already graduated highschool when I was 17, do I even have a chance if i apply? I didn't even know about any other academy other than west point until a year ago, and I wanted to be sure that the military was something I really wanted. Now I can say for sure it is something I want but Im not sure if I missed my window.
the G-shock GD-350 is a decent watch, very easy to read and good if you have larger wrists, it also has a silent vibration alarm, no solar but it has a 5 year battery, it has large buttons which are easy to press. and is a bit cheaper than the 5610.
Thanks for the video. My son is doing a CVW at the USNA this weekend. He will do his first CFA on Saturday. He has done a little practice, but still has a ways to go. He is a rower and wishes that one of the running events was a rowing event. CFA will be his focus once crew season is over. I will be sure that he watches this video.
A video is coming out NEXT WEEK discussing the CFA. In regards to hitting your max make sure that you are conforming to the guidelines as to what a pushup or sit-up actually is. A max score or under a max score is not going to make or break you, SAT/ACT scores will.
Thank you so much for your videos, they have been really helpful for me! I received my appointment to USNA last week. Your videos have helped me receive a nomination from my Senator to USNA, and nominations from my congressman to USMA, USNA, and USAFA.
Well said. These acts are criminal and not acceptable at any level. The officers that covered these up should be held fully accountable, if they fall under a statute of limitations. the Feds should find another legal charge that can be charged (i.e. civil rights violation). The congress oversight for the USCGA should take swift and decisive actions.
For USNA, the "Nominating authority" typically has zero to do with prep-school offers. It's the Service Academy Admissions that makes that analysis and decision to offer a prep-program. USNA Alumni Association has nothing to do with NAPS, they don''t "cover any attendee". The taxpayer pays for NAPS. NAPS is run by the USNA and is funded in the Navy budget. The Alumni Association pays, in part, for scholarships at other USNA approved programs such as Marion Military Institute (MMI). Future candidates: check directly with the service academy for accurate information. Having the most accurate information can assist you in the various interviews you will undergo.
I think that having a LinkedIn as a high schooler may be a good thing to showcase extracurricular activities, jobs held while being in school, etc. Also, this is a good way to connect with people in the community.
They don't give a crap about intolerance. They care about adherence to the cultural marxist agenda. Ironically, it means they will be as intolerant of true diversity of thought as possible.
Thank you very much for then new video and all of the ones that you have made. I Will be taking my Congressional nominations interview next week, which will mark the competition of my application, again thank you for your advice during these videos.
