Its interesting what works for different people. Eddie says on the main lifts work up to a heavy set then walk away and not go back down for a lot of reps. His thought process is the muscle memory. He wants his muscles to remember the heavy weight instead of the light weight

Gear is the only way to achieve this. I hate the fitness industry for giving people the impression that they can look like this apart from taking gear.
