Everyone seems to call this the "anthem of Humanity" or similiar, talking about the greatness of mankind. This is ironic, considering that lyrics were made by Jesus Christ who came to save mankind despite our awfulness and evil. The prayer is about our dependence on and glory of God, not about our amazing achievements. I love this song, despite the colossal misinterpretation of its meaning.

The soldiers fought like tigers and no one should ever disrespect them, they were misguided by the politicians but the soldiers did their job and very well. They are one of the great generations and should be proud to say that. But I ask you this, what was the winning formula for Vietnam? Because a lot of very intelligent, experienced, highly paid people (McNamara, Westmoreland, Abrams and Johnson) sweated over it for years and only came to the conclusion that they needed more men and more bombing. People always say "They should of been allowed to go into Cambodia and Laos earlier and push them back into North Vietnam." But how long would that of lasted? The US Army wouldn't have been able to keep them pinned in North Vietnam forever, eventually they had to leave and the NVA would have just re-opened the trail. It would have brought about the same result just in 1976 instead. It seems to me everyone agreed they needed to stop the spread of Communism in South East Asia but they had no idea how to do it (besides needing more men and more bombing) so in reality they should have never gone into Vietnam in the first place but the politicians felt they had too because of the pressure applied by the US people, in this case the populations anti-communist sentiment actually worked against them as the politicians didn't have the b******s to tell them the war was unwinnable and who can blame them? They'd of been outcasts in US society for even hinting that the US couldn't beat a third world country half way around the world in South East Asia. Yes later in the war the hearts and minds approach started to work but the damage was done by then. But in Vietnam's defence, even to this day we are not 100% on how to fight insurgency wars , just look at Afghanistan, its similarities with Vietnam and how it is going.
