Homestly, I do believe that Lily did not succeed because she was not happy in the first place. She tried to do things on her own only to quickly realize that's not who she was. Yeah, it's weird how she could not see that being with Marshall but they did get together at a very young age so it is hard to figure things out when you're always someone's someone. As much as I hated Lily in this episode, I like how raw and realistic it is. The amount of couple I know who have gone through a similar patch are many.
I think its a little wild that he wouldn't support her dream of doing a summer semester abroad. Like thats only a few months wtf. They could've done long distance and have the plan that she would come back home. Thats really unsupportive. I say this as someone who had to go abroad for a couple years for a masters degree and made long distance work. We are married now and once in awhile, ill take short term jobs abroad. This show makes it seem like its impossible to do long distance for short periods of time. This is actually how life is if you want good career opportunities.
Can we all agree that Lily is just the worst? Between meddeling and manipulating in affairs she has no say in and walking away from Marshal, then wanting him back without really acknowlaging fault... and like Marshall asked her: she can't guarrente she'd love marshal if she'd been succesfull, but wanzs him back desperatly after she failed. Lily is a bad friend, a terrible partner and a discussting human being, and Marshal deserved everybody other then her.
Marshall deserved better. Lily manipulated and controlled Marshall consistently after they got back together. She's kinda awful. Multiple videos about how awful she is
Them 3 months she was taking pipe all nights 🌙, it a sad world out here!!! She had a bucket list to go through before marage, that's why she didn't want to be in contact with him for the 3 months!
Have a love like Marshal and lilly? Hell no. She left, came back because she failed. She pulled his leg again when he had the biggest opportunity in his life to be a judge, She could wait for what she wanted but he couldn't. She was always selfish.
I don't think that even if lily had become successful in painting she wouldn't have returned, i still think she would've loved Marshall and found a way to get back to him and still paint
“You are being more selfish than I have ever been in our ENTIRE relationship” - Lily after Marshall EARNED his dream judge job while forgetting this and playing victim
i've seen people blame marshall for this break up and it blows my fucking mind. "he gave her an ultimatum".... no he asked her a question, multiple times and the question was pretty simple "can you promise me that's not going to happen?". all she had to do was promise. i get that she couldn't i don't blame her that's a hard promise to make. but it's also not fair to leave someone hanging only to possibly rip their heart out. and the way he finds out she's even doing this? a message on an answering machine. "you're forbidding me?"... words he never said and honestly his reason was pretty sound, a wedding isn't exactly something you just do when you feel like it, there's planning involved and if the wedding was during her fellowship she kind of pissed all over their wedding. i love these two together, and honestly i thought the break up and get back together was a great arc for them to go through before being the stable couple in the show. but it doesn't change the fact that lily really F'd up here.
Marshall was a total angel in the entirety of the show. When you think about it, it's better that he and Lily ended up, else he would have let his niceness ruin his life.
One of the reasons why I was fascinated by Season 2 was that they realistically NOT have Marshall immediately take Lily back. Her actions weren't easily forgiven. I'm glad they spent time trying to heal individually before they tried to heal as a couple.
lily had always put the relationship first and ones she tried to put herself together it ended them everyone kept blaming her because she chose herself for once but no one questioned about Marshall's dreams . even tho in the later seasons the dynamic changed but a lot of women go thru this so villanising a women for choosing what she wants for a career is wrong.
You also have to admit, without Marshall she has no one. Ted and Barney are his friends and Robin came in as a friend to the group. So without him she has no friends or boyfriend
