I’m documenting my journey to becoming an artist. Being artistic isn’t a talent we’re born with - it takes practice and experimenting and play. Come along with me as I discover more about who I am as a creative person. I hope to inspire and encourage others to do the same. Expect some “bad” art, self-doubt, proud moments, and my thoughts/musings along the way! Instagram @theonlyaristina
I’m loving the tissue-paper translucency effect you were getting at 0:58 with the different shades and the paper grain. I’m going to tty and recreate that later, if i have enough non opaque paint in the house!
Thank you for this! I’d started paintings in my sketchbook about a week ago and walked away from it as a failure. Watched your video and decided to pick up where I left off. Ended with something that I’m very proud of. We must keep going! 🩵
Thank you, I've made many mistakes recently, and I've been able to rescue some. The others I chalk up to learning and display them for a chuckle and move forward. I will now play with the collage idea you showed me. Thanks again for the inspiration. 😊
Hi, new subscriber here. You rock! I adore your courage, beginning my art journey 5 years ago, at age 62, by deciding it was time to just do it! And I did, now I have a big exhibition at a cultural house in my city. Good luck, with love from Iceland
I love your painting! The mix of colors make your piece really pop. I know exactly what you mean about painting without a plan. I used to spend far too much time planning than doing. Recently I started just going for it. Adding paint, stencils, etc. After I finished my piece I thought yuck this thing is a mess. It's probably not as bad as I think 😊. Btw, what kind of paper are you using? It looks like it takes paint really well.
Thank you so much! I love lots of colour! It’s fun to just go for it and paint without planning. When I feel that my painting is a mess, it usually looks better the next day 🤣 and then I can also see what I can do to bring it all together. I think it’s sometimes like life too- I plan too much, when just jumping in and figuring it out as I go would be more fun! 🤔 The paper I’m using is a heavy watercolour pad. Have a good day!
You're very welcome! I try walking away and then going back but end up painting over it. Or it becomes part of a collage project. Which is fine and usually looks better cut up and glued down 😅. Thank you so much for your great response!
Same thing for me, usually it’s some colours I want to paint with, then the rest of it just evolves

Wrote an engaged and positive comment just now Got awkward about it, deleted it Now it's gone, and that's a bit of a drag Bottom line was: I've long been crazy stuck, but.. currently, finally and agonizingly slowly, coming unsuch (unstuck, that is). I kinda have to. I'm afraid it's either that, or continuing to smother in anxiety until something gives out. Sounds more worser than .. uh.. well, yeah, it's pretty bad. But it's improving and it's been doing so consistently and for quite some time now.. so yeah, there's positive to it all as well ;) It's a sub for inspiration. Thanks!
Being stuck is soooo hard! And then the worry about being stuck...I can definitely relate! But I'm really glad that you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Happy you're here :)
Thank you for this video! It speaks to me directly!! There is absolutely no way I could have said it better, had I tried. My husband is wonderful, but is not a perfectionist, and this issue comes up day after day, in the condition of our house. (Not June Cleaver-level clean). He doesn't understand why I can't, "Just clean the "junk" out of the "catch-all corner". Hopefully, this video, and your teachings will help him understand, and be more patient with me...and my perfectionism! Again: THANK YOU!!
I just found your channel after you subscribed to mine and I’m IN LOVE! I used to paint a lot…and I paint in a similar style to you. I’ve subscribed and will catch up on your catalogue of videos this week. They are beautiful and I love your narrative essays that go along with each one. Thank you for being in this space!
Thank you very much for your kind words. I was inspired by your content and will also be catching up. Good luck with your goal of monetization - YOU WILL DO IT!
That's a fascinating glimpse behind the curtain of how a painting comes to be! It still surprises me how much thinking and pondering and constant re evaluation going on! I've read a book once, where one of the characters said something like " most people live their lives with their eyes closed, they look, but don't see, they get into a rut and continue till the end without ever wake up" . The process of your painting is complete opposite! You, as an artist, are vigilant, ready to react to whatever happens on the canvas, noticing every little detail, changing, morphing... It was extremely interesting to watch, thank you for this insight into your creative process!
Hi🙋♀️. Great topic...and viewpoint. I completely agree about making art for oneself. I find such joy in framing my art and hanging it to enjoy 💞 On my journey thus far I've discovered my love of abstract art...which has come as a big surprise to me...along with a love of brighter color palettes...and different medias...its great fun🎉
Thank you, I've been kinda blocked lately, uninspired, and just hearing this today right after I started a new piece has energized me. Thanks again for this incredible timing!
I’m so glad that this came at the perfect time for you. It’s amazing that happened and I’m happy you’re energized now. You can do anything you put your mind to! ❤️

Thank you so much for this! Sometimes I have a hard time expressing myself verbally and this is a perfect way to do it. The yellow gives this piece a pop that I just love! I can't wait to try this!!
I’m so glad to hear that it inspired you! Have fun trying some of the ideas out and letting yourself loose on the page! P.S. your comment made my day 😊
Loved everything about this❤ I just push through and do what I can regarding being creative. Normally I create for me and keep the focus there. And that does it ❤ thanks for your encouragement 🙏🏽
Hi 😊 I usually gesso my canvas panels, but don’t usually gesso paper. It’s fun to try it both with and without gesso to see the different effects and what you like!
Thanks for your videos. I always like watching them. I am an artist too, and I can totally relate to everything your talking about. Keep up the great work 👍 do you have an Instagram account? Would love to follow you 😊❤
