The current generation being offended by a change in temperature, will prevent us having the gift of people like John. We need to cancel the cancel culture dumb fucks. They are the people who sat at the back of the classroom because they couldn't answer any questions. Now they choose to be offended just to get some attention. Long live John and Hey Hey! Go on you tube, ban me again for saying fuck! Then delete all your videos that say or show something worse! I got a warning for this
😢A lovely tribute to John Blackman, short, simple and sweet and just what he would have liked. I’m sure that he will be up there cracking jokes with Ernie Carroll and other TV stars like Bert, Don and Graham. Condolences to his family and The Hey Hey It’s Saturday cast/alumni.
There was Ernie and Bert on Sesame St and on Channel 9 lost Ernie (Sigley) and Bert (Newton), Prince Phillip, Dieter Brummer (Shane Parrish). Very sad.
What a talent, I can’t believe it, very good entertainment and Tom Petty will be proud. Pete Mitchell with John Farnham’s band. If Mitch can do it, I’m sure the other Pete, ie Peter Hitchener can sing. I loved it.
I was a fan of his when he came to Britain in the late 50’s and it took him several records before he broke through over here. But what a breakthrough with that superb updating of an old standard ‘I Remember You’, which launched him to super stardom in the U.K. He made 4 number ones and made many fine recordings in his career often updating old songs and giving them a country treatment, a music incidentally he loved. Unfortunately, after he stopped recording with Norrie Paramor, the hits dried up and sadly he lost the ability to be able to sing. RIP Frank, I’ll always remember you.
Passing on condolences to John’s family and his extended “family” at Hey Hey It’s Saturday. John made the show happen with his larger than life humour. It was classic Tv, when YTT sadly ended I watched Hey Hey and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for the memories John, reunited with Animal, Ernie (Carroll the man behind Ossie), and other TV legends Bert, Don and Graham.
I used to watch HHIS from 9.30pm in the earlier days of the show on at night. I lived in the Newcastle suburb of Stockton and had the antenna to pick up Sydney stations, so I was able to watch the show through *Station TCN-Sydney* John Blackman was already doing the voice of Dickie Knee at the time, even before Red Symonds and Ian Meldrum came on the scene. Gavin Wood was the music critic for the show back then and the band's drummer was nicknamed "Animal". By the early 1990s, *Station NBN-Newcastle* had picked up the show when its timeslot was brought forward to 6.30pm(Station NBN-Newcastle's weekend news bulletin was still 30 minutes back then while the weekday bulletin was 1 hour, indeed, Station NBN-Newcastle *pioneered* the 1-hour bulletin in 1972, long before any metropolitan station had even thought of doing 1-hour bulletins) By the time HHIS appeared on Station NBN-Newcastle, Gavin Wood was gone, Ian Meldrum was in place and the "Red Faces" segment was more formalised. Chook-lotto was gone, replaced by Plucka-Duck, and the "Great Aussie Joke" with Shane Bourne and the late Maurie Fields was a regular segment. Saturday evening TV was great *BACK THEN!* but today it's *shithouse!*
Yes I remember watching it at the 9:30 pm till midnight time slot. It was a lot more risqué and used to get away with a lot more. I remember that being around 1985, I couldn’t believe what they got away with !
Was listening to him on Sam Newman’s podcast just a few weeks ago. Will give Keep Smilin’ with Daryl & Ossie another spin and be grateful. RIP John. Condolences to his family.
Sorry...but I for one could do without Hinch's nauseating hypocrisy. He was utterly and quite unnecessarily abusive towards John during the "radio wars" of the '86/87 period.
Iconic man . Quick witted & always waiting for his comments or one liners on Hey Hey it’s Saturday which always had me laughing . Another legend gone but will never be forgotten . RIP John & give ‘em hell in heaven .
