really? what would be the point the elder blood warrior (ciri) generation has passed. it would just be sick & pointless. does it say that in Witcher 3? if so this mf is a dead man when i get to that point in the game
@@coffeekat5066 Right. And I understand that his appearance and certain aspects in the game are more similar to the books, though years later, but politically and morally, he is far more like the character in the show. I don’t remember him being a pencil pushing bureaucrat in the books. I believe Geralt even offers to serve Emhyr in the books out of desperation, but Emhyr turns him down. As opposed to in Witcher 3 when they’re casual acquaintances. So clearly his relationship with Geralt, Ciri, and even Yennefer have been seriously retconned lol. Which wouldn’t be that big a deal if people didn’t constantly claim the show *doesn’t follow any of the source material unlike Witcher 3.* When to my surprise, from what I know, it’s more like the books than the game is. I mean I saw countless people refer to themselves as “real fans” unlike those who watch the show because they like Witcher 3. Some people read the books but apparently can’t remember or didn’t understand a single aspect of them. Anyway rant over lol
@@angelking.91 no in Witcher 3 as far as I know he has a completely normal response with Ciri as far as monarchs go. He was distant to her and his evil deed is to force her to take over the throne, which all kings do regarding their offspring. (Others can correct me if I’m wrong.) He also has a bizarrely good relationship with Geralt who barely interacted with him in the books. When they did there was no respect there whatsoever lol. If the book canon is in line with the game’s, Yen and Geralt are basically evil, and the two of them, Ciri, and Emhyr are absolute morons. 😂 But the point of marrying her is allegedly some prophecy about his descendants ruling everything blah blah. Really I just think he wants to “keep elder blood in his line” as OP says, exert as much control as possible, and leave a legacy that will include elder blood and then a whole lot of his blood, since Ciri’s child will be 3/4 his basically. 🤢
I mean for one he was a computer graphic, but still interesting. Two he was a lot nicer than this one and less mysterious, more mild and “bureaucratic.” He also loved and trusted Geralt to a surprising degree given their “relationship” in the books lol. I guess in the book and show versions he identifies totally with his role as emperor, in the series it’s especially with the performative aspect. Idk about the game because that seems to be the case but then the whole point is he’s just abdicating the throne like no dictator has really done but. I guess it’s possible. Anyway they definitely make him more “likable”’in the game.
Well. A few problems with that reasoning: you are comparing someone’s looks, their visual appearance, in a live action television show to someone else’s performance, their voice acting, in a video game. So those are three points of difference. Comparing someone’s looks to another person’s vocal performance is an interesting idea, but not comparable except in a completely subjective sense. As in you prefer one to the other. On top of that, the show was never based on Witcher 3, which is not canon with the books (though many incorrectly suggest and believe that). But in terms of appearance, an emperor in general doesn’t have to look a certain way, unless you believe people are purely their appearance. They are also so powerful they don’t *need* to ACT intimidating at all. (They can if they want!) Also I recall that version of the emperor talking with Geralt alone and up close in his office, which was extremely risky for the emperor. He also didn’t want to get rid of him? Those actions at least make him less intimidating than he was in the books. We don’t know much about him in the show yet, but the issue with people like that isn’t their “presence,” but what they do. Obviously leaping from the first few statements to “everything about this show sucks” is completely illogical lol, but I assume you are aware of that and are simply being hyperbolic. Though you also don’t seem to have watched the show, so I don’t know why you would think so much about it sucks. Since you mention this guy’s looks and nothing else.
@@NoelleMar My point is the show's characters are largely garbage in comparison to a video game, which is not the way it's supposed to be. I've seen the first season and thought it was thoroughly terrible. Everything past that I've gotten forced into my algorithm against my will. I don't feel like writing a full review on it or elaborating but good on you for making a thoughtful response. I just loathed the casting choices and the dialogue was horrendous.
@@DngrDan thank you and I wish I had your algorithm! I only get recommended people asserting how much they hate the show, either without giving reasons or with completely untrue arguments lol. (Untrue as in they say things happen in the show or books that literally don’t happen etc.) But stating how it’s bad without giving any explanation because you don’t feel like it seems unnecessary and hateful lol. I get it, we all complain and have that right, but not everything is made for us and we don’t have to go out of our way to say we despise it. (Including me.)
Tbh while he’s attractive, having a cooler voice represent the character would’ve been rad. In the Witcher III game the actor who played Tywin Lannister in GOT did his voice acting and it was perfect. He commanded the scenes like a true emperor
But when you’re an emperor, you don’t need to have a commanding voice. Charles Dance has a great voice! But I also like that in this he’s more of a “heroic” figure to the “common man.” (Obviously he’s trash, but that’s part / one of the images he projects.) As well as chosen by destiny or some prophecy blah blah. (According to him.) He’s also very manipulative, sometimes acting rather wounded and tragic as though he bears such a heavy weight. (That’s also like in the book from what I recall.)
oooh I love the use of the legends never die line for Nikolai, very fitting in the show context of him turning Sturmhond into a legacy that will live even when he can't be that role
