Was going to save this for tomorrow but couldn't wait. I liked both the fingerpicking and strumming but I felt freer doing the strumming. G to Em using the pinky feels awkward and takes time to get used to. Thanks for the great lesson, Lara.
Thanks for giving both versions a try Mike! Hopefully the G to Em transition will feel less awkward over time. I find that it comes in handy with the fast tempo. I'm so glad you enjoyed this lesson!
Yes, here's the full tutorial with various pattern options: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MDVmUR2CV84.html And here's the play along: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HAuR_tR17AU.html
Thanks so much! I believe that no age is too old to learn. Many of my students, followers, and patrons have started playing ukulele in their 70's, 80's, and 90's 😊
Hi Lara, Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials. I was wondering about Travis Picking. I became use to using four fingers (one on each string) from watching several other finger style tutorials. On the Travis Picking I have noticed that the thumb is used alternating between the G and C string. Is there a reason not to use four fingers on the Travis Picking Style? I don’t want to pick up any bad habits and wondered what you thought.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the tutorials! Feel free to use whatever picking fingers are most comfortable to you. You may find that when you increase the tempo, it's easier to use your thumb on the 3rd and 4th strings. Using the thumb in this way is more traditional for Travis Picking, however, you won't form bad habits by using 4 fingers. Thanks for the question!
This is standard numbering of ukulele strings. The 4th string is closest to you and 1st string is closest to the ground. I didn't create the numbering. Thanks for the question!
Thanks for this lesson!😆😁😁 Hi Lara! You are a really Nice teacher and cleari for explain. Quise decir: gracias por tu clase, Hola Lara! Sos realmente una muy buena profesora y explicas con claridad 👌
I just found your videos, thank you for explaining the steps so slowly and clearly! Any additional advice on the Bm chord? I seem to struggle with it a lot...
I'm so glad you're enjoying the lessons! I don't have any special tips on Bm but it does take a lot of practice. When I first learned Bm I found it very challenging as well. I think you'll find that it gets easier over time 😉
From 4 years into the future, I wave and say 'thanks' As a non player, but seriously thinking about taking the uke up, your video popped up as I searched the basics, of tuning etc. I've watched a demonstration of a song, and he too had a clip on tuning machine. I don't know if these are packaged with your purchase, or you just use an app like you showed here. Cheers for an easy to follow guide.
Clip on tuners are generally sold separately. I find that they're a bit more accurate than apps, but the apps can be handy. Glad you're thinking about taking up the uke! I hope you give it a try 😊
I’ll have you know your music is so fascinating I just bought another tenor ukulele just so I could have one with low G tuning on hand instead of constantly changing strings. Thanks for the tutorials
