What a Awesome visit here at the Golden Spike Museum, truly heart-warming and heart felt.. I have fond memories of my dear and Beloved Brother In Law William Bill Riley Sr!! Recipient Posthumously of the Prestigious and Rare "Golden Spike Award"... and other dear close friends who have or work on the Railroads..! Bill had a incredible journey on the Rails...43 years ... He is greatly missed, yet the Old Motto in Cheyenne Wyoming is " Live The Legend" ... Home of " Big Boy " The World's largest Steam Locomotive! GOD Bless each Railroad Family and each Rail Fan... Remember... Safety First and Don't play on or near the tracks... Good times and Good Photos.. with Great Memories!
if a train is bad order this is the only place on the UP to get it fixed. North Platte Diesel Shop fixes 350 engines a day and each hour an engine comes in with all sorts of problems and this is the only place to get it fixed.
I've been trying to talk my railfan buddy, Eric Zimmerman into visiting this site on one of our excursions throughout the country. Maybe 2015 will be the year! I've got to find a creative method of transportation to get here as Nebraska isn't on the top of too many lists as a place to visit. Anybody who's come have any suggestions? What else is there to do nearby? Even a couple states out from here? He's a big fan of medicine, NASCAR, General Motors & auto related hobbies in addition to a lifelong love of trains.
I retired from AT&SF in 1986 with 41 years as a Throttle Jerker. I've seen this yard and I like it better than the Barstow Yard. I started out as a Fireman and Brakeman on the old Baldwin Steamers. A 5 star film. Don :-)
