I was submitting to PSA and got tired of getting seemingly random grades on my cards. I also realized I was more interested in grading for cards I intended to keep. So I am now sending to TAG. As your video and many commenters have said, TAG is not the best for flipping. But that could change years down the road. But TAG is certainly nice right now for displaying your collection.
I'm glad the video helps! If you run into anything that gives you trouble, don't hesitate to step away from it for a few minutes. It's amazing what a short time away can do for solving problems. While I can't guarantee I'll be able to respond immediately if you do get stuck, I always do my best to respond to comments on the fix-it videos as quickly as possible to help troubleshoot.
@@ramiroduenas573 From what I can tell, some did and some didn't. I think it depended on the differtial itself. This one, being the Eaton locker (rpo g80), does not. I've yet to come across a g80 with a drain plug but I bet I'll see one as soon as I hit send!
@@ramiroduenas573 I knew that was going to happen! My next guess is maybe it has to do with either the tow package or the z71 package. This truck has both. Or maybe they ran out of drill bits!
Great video on keeping track of cards. I just got started about 2 weeks ago and have tone of cards. Now I have to sort them and figure this hobby out. I think you and I have a good idea on the image. the way my brain works is I need name team card number and price plus show the image. have you figure out where to upload the image and the big question what scanner will you be using or will you be using your phone camera. Been trying to figure this out rather then using apps since you have limit of space or you have to buy a member ship . Keep up the great videos. oh your link for the excel is not working either.
Thanks for checking it out and for the heads up about the link. I just corrected it (I had been tinkering with my site and forgot to fix the URLs). The part about showing an image in a spreadsheet gets tricky. The space on this spreadsheet for images is really just for the filename but not a graphical representation, if that makes sense. The reason is so that it can also be used for bulk uploads instead of manually doing each card. I looked into how to get actual pics into the spreadsheet but it didn't seem straightforward and I figured I'd be okay without it. That would work better with a database but it's also much more time consuming and technical to set up. There are some programs I've seen on eBay that are basically a ready-to-go database. Those might work better if you absolutely need the image. If not, the spreadsheet is likely a good start. As far as cameras go, I never use my cell for product images, but that's really only because I've been selling on eBay for years and bought a camera just for product pics. In the absence of that camera, I would probably use the cell phone. Most are more than capable but there are a few things to look out for. If you don't use any zoom at all, the card will seem distorted. I don't really understand why this happens, but it has something to do with how the lenses work. A quick fix is to set the phone farther back and zoom in a little. I had an old scanner that I tried using but it was very slow and became more of a hassle than a tool for progress, so I scrapped that plan and just practiced snapping pics of cards. It took a few tries, but after about 15 minutes of trial and error, you will have some of the best card pics available. Let me know if you have any other questions. It's always fun to see others getting into the hobby and seeing how much different it is now than when we were kids (yet so much of it is still exactly the same). One last tip, if you have a twitter account, there is a great hobby community there. I found a ton of solid people who sell, buy, show off, share tips, etc. It's an all around great way to feel connected to the hobby overall.
Also, I just realized that not only was the link to the page bad, I somehow messed up the links to the actual downloads. I'm going to have to check tomorrow to see if I can find the files on my backup and add them to the site again.
@@funcle_kevin Thank you for the reply back. I think I might create a twitter account ... let me know the groups. One other thing I just learn that 80 - 90 those are wax card junk and base cards or is it the same thing. I have a tone of those cards so what should I do with them or what would you do keep them or trash them after you took out the good ones.
@@louiem5985 With Twitter, they don't really have defined groups but when you follow a few people in the hobby, you'll start recognizing others who follow the same people. I'd say the best place to start would be a guy named Mike. His RU-vid channel is called Junk Wax Hero. There's no link to his Twitter profile for some reason, but it's the same name with "- Mike" added to the end. He and an account called Card Purchaser are great for all levels of collectors. Both are a wealth of knowledge. You're sort of right about the 80s/90s stuff, but it's not 100% guarantee that a card from that era is worthless. That era is typically referred to as Junk Wax, but there are a lot of gems in there. Base, on the other hand, can be from any time period. It simply means that it's a card from the "regular" set as opposed to special cards that are randomly inserted in packs and boxes. Older sets were mostly base with very few, if any, inserts. Modern sets are a different monster. Some may have just as many "parallels" (cards that look like base but have a different border color or some other distinguishing mark to set them apart) as base. Your plan sounds solid. I'd go through them and keep the childhood favorites while checking the value of the others. You might find a card you don't really care to have in your collection that is worth enough to pay for a year of supplies and some new cards! Also, I just fixed the spreadsheet situation. I don't have the files for the ones that I saved after the video, but the ones I uploaded are a natural advancement of the others. I think you'll find the new one even more useful than what I showed in the video, but the basics are all the same. I just added some stuff. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll do my best to steer you in the right direction!
@@funcle_kevin Thank you for all the info and advice. . .here's another issue I'm having since I have so many cards finding that gem is hard since I have check online. Plus there is not a good place or app to check what the current price is on the cards. I started using Collx but that app give you some times wrong prices on cards. I mean I check ebay like everyone else but that's it. If you don't mind me asking how did you check your cards? One thing I started doing is sorting the cards out by year and brand. once that is done I will be sorting by team . once that is one then by player to figure out how many copies I have. Then maybe if i don't get burn out create a collection of that year. is there a list of players that you know that I should be looking for 1985 to 1993 I guess the junk era that are worth something? That would sorta help me when I put the players together in the team section. thanks for you help again.
Overall a pretty good sub I think. Congrats on some nice grades. I have a ton of the Jagr and Brodeur rookies that I should look and see if any are worth grading. I should be getting some new PSA Blind Reveal videos up soon. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks for checking it out. I've been a little busy this week but definitely plan on getting some more videos up soon. I also hope to see another reveal from you soon!
@@funcle_kevin I cant wait to see more from you for sure. Good luck!!! I will be putting one up this week and I am also getting back 2 subs back this week.
My opinion, TAG will be the standard, it will be the other companies that will get in line and start using AI to grade. I have some TAG, JSA, and Beckett. I prefer TAG. This is just my opinion. I could be right or wrong only time will tell.
I think you might be right, but it could take a while. My guess is that someone (likely Collectors Universe) will buy the TAG technology and start implementing it.
@@PlasticRealmToys I fully agree. Their wordplay always kept me hooked, especially Vast. I still find myself catching things that I've heard for decades but never fully comprehended.
My buddy had a Genesis when we were kids. I'll never forget my first time playing Sonic. I hadn't seen anything beyond NES in person at that point, and it blew my mind. I remember thinking the rings looked so real!
I "m glad you found it and enjoyed it! I wish I still had the other disc for this, but it was lent to someone 20 years ago and never seen again. I'm trying to upload a few more mixtapes in the next few weeks, though. Check back soon!
I appreciate that. I always try to respond as quickly as I can. I know how frustrating/ scary it can be when you're in your driveway and something doesn't go as planned!
I was watching but didnt see the red portion due to looling away.. i movved the shifter back to park but i also moved my gear manually back to neutral... did i mess up or is that ok long as im sure its in the corresponding gear and what the shifter indicates?
You're still okay (replying to both just in case someone else runs into the same issue). You can manually adjust either while and just make sure they are set the same when linking things back up. If it's not right the first time, it's not a big deal to hop back under and make the adjustment to the selector.
@@billmort3819 That's awesome! I don't remember even hearing about errors in hockey cards, now that I'm thinking about it. I wonder how many I've overlooked!
its not an error because his name is spelled wrong on everyone of those cards.in order to be an error their has to be a corrected version and their isnt.but yea its spelled wrong
Trust the TAG system over PSA and others all day. Market is ignorant when it comes to how they approach grading. I’d love for them to move to vintage cards, unfortunately don’t see that happening anytime soon. If you’re flipping cards, use SGC, PSA, BGS. If holding, love TAG.
I thought their plan was to get into vintage, but what I remember seeing on their website is no longer there. Either way, I agree that they should be the gold standard for grading. Time will tell.
@@bryanlyle That is correct. I always recommend just a gasket. Some people like RTV, and I've seen them used together but it always leads to a mess. As long as there's no pitting it the mating surface, you will be fine.
Pretty cool return. How do the starting lineup cards sell? Love the variety of your sub. I hope to get some new videos up soon as well. I cant wait to see more of your videos. You gained a new subscriber.
Thanks for checking it out! The Starting Lineups do okay but aren't anything to plan a future with. They're in my category of "not going to retire off of them, but they'd make a cool addition to someone's collection." Overall demand isn't really high, so the customer is usually a little extra pumped to get a sort of rare addition at a good price. I'm going to sub to you. I look forward to checking out your cards!
Is the wire hard to switch out or is it easy also? Sometimes my truck thermostat gauge doesn’t work! I’m thinking it’s the sensor but if I’m gonna do the sensor I’m thinking about changing out the wire also. Because I’m also going to but I’m a new thermostat
It shouldn't be too hard, but you might be able to avoid replacing wires altogether. If you can wiggle the wires when the gauge is not reading properly and that causes the gauge to read as expected, then it is likely that a wire is frayed or broken. If you wiggle the wires and nothing happens, it's more likely just the sensor itself (this would be my guess even without seeing the overall condition). If you can identify that the wire is broken between the plug and the main harness (or if you replace the sensor and nothing changes), you can buy a replacement plug and short wires fairly cheaply. Splicing that into the harness is pretty straightforward if you've ever installed a stereo or something similar. If there's no obvious break before the main harness, you can test the entire run of wire from the plug side near the sensor, to the ECM side (while ignition is OFF) using a multimeter. If I had to guess, I'd say it's only the sensor and possibly the wires before the harness. They are pretty well protected the rest of the way, but there is always the chance of a hungry mouse causing damage. Swapping the entire run wouldn't be too hard but it does involve swapping wires in the ECM plug, which adds a small bit of complexity. If you're not comfortable with that, it should be around an hour of labor if you have a local mechanic you trust.
My opinion: Tag will eventually be the standard, maybe not in the near future although it will be at some point. My reasoning: As with everything I always expect consistency (I think Tag is close). Who likes to do something or eat somewhere or go somewhere and things are not the same as you remember, not as good, or a disappointment? With Tag it appears they're trying to remove the human interaction from the process, the one thing that can change from person to person how they inspect and determine a grade. Again my opinion although I think anyone that is using Tag will be rewarded in the end as they pick up speed and start to become the standard. My 2 Cents. It'll be a wait and see....
I’m sorry you didn’t get the grades you were hoping for, but submitting off centered cards is going to result in lower grades at TAG. And that’s the point: objective grading. If your card isn’t at least 55/45, you’re not going to get a 10.
By the way, on TAG X, the 1000pt scores don’t mean much. There are 4x 1000pt scores for each subgrade and TAG only shows the 2 least important scores on TAG X cards. If you had submitted to TAG S all 4 1000pt scores would be visible.
Right on. I was honestly overwhelmed with the flood of information on their site and didn't know where to find their metrics when I made the video. My next reveal will (hopefully) be much more polished. I appreciate the input!
@@DanWright-w7x That's a great idea. It would definitely help preserve the threads. I think I'll only be able to use mine one more time before I need to replace it.
It can be tricky. Make sure the guides in the pitman arm line up with the steering gear post. It's a tight fit and will only slide a little without mechanical force behind it. Making sure everything is aligned is the important part.
Thanks for checking it out and subscribing! I just subbed your channel. I'm a big fan of random s**t so I'm always excited to find other channels that don't stick to just one niche. Old school RU-vid is making a comeback!
Great video, I love TAG and believe they give us a glimpse of the future as far as how grading should be transparent. PSA has done me dirty a few times as their QA is lacking.
Thanks for checking it out! I agree and hope TAG and the tech behind it catches on but the more I talk to people, the more I worry PSA won't be losing the crown anytime soon. Hopefully PSA either buys TAG, or one of the very big sellers/YTers starts propping them up.
