My question is how do da big schools weed out the kids who literally can’t have their feet in time and the kids who don’t try all that hard? Does marching band have tryouts?
Some schools have marching band try out i think it’s mainly the upcoming sophomores and up. Usually some schools does some upcoming freshman camps that involves marching fundamentals and marching basics like in beginning of june or july. Usually in big bands they have a lot of advantages of like stopping playing bc and also being off time and off step but sometimes it may be quite noticeable
tbn/euph dude here! this is officially my favorite tbn solo ever! we're on the come up, and i hope we get to grand nats to see you all... eventually, haha. cheers from bixby, OK!
wtf, is this so good because of band size and funding or what? my high school marching band just got straight superiors at MPA and we're nowhere near this. how the heck are they this good at a high school level?
They have good directors and some funding yes, but that wouldn’t mean anything if the kids didn’t work their a**es off. These kids work hard to make their shows a piece of art.
This is a high school? Bro I'm a sophomore and we have the smallest band in our district, and the freshman struggle some with just regular marching, we only have like 3 moments where we have visuals/dances, rest is just marching
Most of the time when there is an instrument switch it's mostly one of these reasons. For example in Blue Devils 2018 they used a raw brsss trumpet to stick out the soloist from the rest of the trumpets. That or in Bluecoats 2018 they had a different trumpet for the solist that they only use during solos because that trumpet is micd up to not deal with turning on and off the mic. But in this case it looks like to have the soloist play on their personal instrument.
